The possibilities would be endless. If Spyderco did this they would get extreme business.
I'd want 2 FFG ZDP-189 Black FRN Handel Delica, with unpainted pocket clip, and 2 of the same configuration for the Endura.

What would you want?

A super thin ground FFG ZDP Delica. Black blade and toxic handle scales. I'm not normally a fan of black coated blades, but they look sweet with toxic green scales.

Been brought up a lot of times and the spydercrew anticipate that this will be more trouble than it's worth.

I Would Build The Following Options:
Spyderco Endura FFG In D2 Steel, D2 Pocket Clip, And Blue G-10 Scales.

Spyderco Endura FFG In s90v Steel, s90v Pocketclip, And Carbon Fiber Scales.

Spyderco Endura FFG In 154CM Steel, 154CM Pocketclip, It To Be A Titanium Framelock, And Blue Mixed With Toxic Green G-10 Scale On The Non Locking Side.(I Know This Type Of G-10 Is Not Real, But It Would Be Awesome.)

And Finally The Baby:
Spyderco Endura FFG In Either Raindrop Or Twist Damascus, Framelock, The Frame Being Damascus As Well, Damascus Pocket Clip, And A Blue Mixed With Orange G-10 Scale, With A Good Sized Lanyard Hole, And An Electric Blue/Neon Orange Camo Paracord Twist Lanyard.

It's Ridiculous And Over The Top But You're Supposed To Have Fun With These Things. =]

i started a thread a few months ago about a Spyderco custom shop quite similarly to what your talking about. and it was commented by the spyderco crew that this would be more trouble than it would be worth. I think spyderco should just keep doing what they are doing

as awesome as it would be, it wont happen :-(

Yes, I have to agree that it would be a lot of trouble for them to have a custom shop.

They have enough trouble as it is keeping up with all of the sprint runs and new releases.

I don't mean to sound negative at all ― I am a big Spyderco fan and have bought at least ten of their knives in the past
year ― and plan on buying more as they become available!

Just curious but why would you want the pocket clip to be the same steel as the blade steel? I could see wanting a damascus pocket clip but a S90V would just be expensive and of no benefit and it looks the same as even the cheapest stainless steels. Just wondering if I'm missing something?

They have got a good business sense.
Their knives are certainly not the main stream now. So collectors I guess represent a significant part of their customer base. They recognize that and try hard to make the most out of it - with their enormous product range, model rotation and sprint runs. Having a a custom shop on the top are not likely to create so much incremental volume - that would mostly draw collector's money away from their new models and sprint runs... So Spyderco would eventually end up with the same total revenue but at higher cost...

I too would love a web-based design engine and a custom shop to build them, but the folks in Golden seem to have too many irons in the fire as it is.

If I were going to start up a mid-tech knife company I'd do exactly this.

I'm a big fan of the Spyderco Delica. I reckon Spyderco has already made the Delica I'd ask for if given custom options: the damascus and jigged-bone Sprint run. Beautiful knife! Expensive, but drop-dead gorgeous!

Well, I Know It Looks The Same, It's Not For The Looks Really.
Really It's For The Durability, And The Wear And Tear It Could Take.
Not That A Normal Steel Pocket Clip Is Not Durable, But Is Not As Durable As It Would Be If It Were Made Of A Quality Steel.
So, If You're a Heavy User, And Carrier Then A Tough Pocket Clip Would Be Ideal.
It May Be A Little More Expensive, But, If You Think About It, To Have A Durable, Tough, Withstanding, Most Likely Life Long Clip, It's Not Going To Be Much, And Would Be Worth It.
Rather Than Having To Get New Pocket Clips All Of The Time.

So That's My Reasoning For The Fancy Pocket Clips Lol.

Spyderco Endura FFG 154CM steel Satin Finished, Satin Finished Clip , Black/Red 3-D G10 handles, Red/Black Paracord lanyard.

Generally, the higher end steels are more brittle, thus they wouldn't be more durable. The lower quality stainless is tougher and is a better choice for pocket clips. Or you can do like Popsickle says and get Ti clips.

If they get big enough to do that, they'd be able to replace blades. I think that should be their priority before custom colors on a knife.

Replacing blades isn't going to happen. They are continuosly refining knife designs so they may have one model that has 5 different blade designs and they can't keep all on hand and it might even be hard to just figure out which blade a knife needs.

On top of that there are many knives made in Japan and Taiwan and they would have to have a bunch of parts sent with the knives. Many of the parts are hand fitted so that is a problem too.

Then they have to have a place to store everything and a person to run it to know where everything is and do the repairs.

It is a lot easier for them to just give someone a brand new knife if there is a warranty problem.
