Folks! If Sal would grant me a wish -- Say, pick a Spyderco model and I'll customise it for you : That'll be a C-17 Catcherman with CPM 440V or 3V blade, a blackened steel clip, G10 scale and a liner lock!

If you have a similar oppurtunity, what will it be?

Interesting question you pose Sam. I would also be interested in hearing why each material or change was preferred.

Sal, thanks for the note!

My recommendations on the C-17 would encompass more user-friendly features. New steel like the CPM-440V or 3V would provide more edge retention and abrasion resistance. A G-10 scale would highly suite the knife in wet and slimy environment often associated with gutting and filleting fishes (In Malaysia, tropical warm-water species posed much problems with slime). Now the existing clip which is organic to the handle is good enough, but could even be better with a steel clip which is blackened. This I vouch with extreme confidence on the C-55 Starmate which I own! The lanyard hole was an excellent choice! Liner-lock! That would give the Catcherman an extra edge and much improved handling. Well cost factor dictates and I'm sure the changes would pound my wallet! But for a die-hard stream and offshore angler like me, its worth every cent. I have a collection of folding fillet knives which are mainly from Scandinavian countries and Europe but procuring the C-17 was something that I had done without remorse! It was love at the first sight too!

Sam - As a side note. The Catcherman will be switching to MBS-26 stainless later this year. Better edge retention, more flexibility, better corrosion resistance.

MBS-26 is our kitchen knife steel, which, if you haven't tried, you might consider. We've found very few, (if any) production steels that will compete with our MBS-26 in food prep. Thin flat grind.

I'd put a back side finger cutout to match the mark side on every knife to make the grip more friendly, ease left handed opening, and give better purchase for "drop" opening.

My only request would be to make ALL Spydies AMBIDEXTROUS. The Centofone is a beauty but with the opening hole being partially blocked by the handle on the left handed side, it can't be used "gracefully" by us lefties.

Sorry 'bout the spelling today, I'm having a bad brain day. And EAGERLY anticipating our vacation beginning tomorrow!
Take care all!

I've had more paper cuts than cuts from knives, but the knives are QUICKLY gaining!

I would have to say a full size Wegner with talonite and a compression lock. The perfect folder, for me anyway

My Spyderco wish?

A 4 inch blade Native with CPM-440V steel, stainless scales, and a liner lock...
Carried Tip Down.

SAL - You Make - I BUY!

How about a Mini Dyad (er, Dyad Jr.) with blue anodized titanium scales and VG-10 blades?

Or a Calyspo Jr. with 440V and G-10 (to better match my Military!)

Actually, anything in 440V or VG-10 is desirable.

Guys, after using the Endura for a while, one made with G10 scales, liner lock and CPM 440V would make me really happy!
