If this quality is an indicator.....

...then I really need to secure a KELLY FLINTEDGE ax !

Found this 13" Kelly Flintedge ball peen hammer on rounds.... seems just
about perfect quality. I assume it is from the True Temper era (but logo
left off the back side). A previous owner put an American Handle Co. "condor"
handle on.

Man, I need to find a Kelly FLINTEDGE ax.... but they seem somewhat rare
out here in the desert southwest. (I read the history re: patents, buy outs,
expansions...great stuff....:Family "Kelly" were obviously major players in
the tool market).

Sorry if off-topic.

Definitely looks like a great tool, never seen a Flint edge hammer which makes no sense as there's no edge but this still looks like a great tool.

Hickory n' Steel...

I didn't know about the hammer but it seems all the forum members here
hold "Kelly FlintEdge" ax's in such high regard I thought this was worth
picking up. No regrets. (and the history was an added benefit !). I had
never seen KELLY FLINTEDGE imprinted on a tool. I need to pay more
attention. :)

I'm a fan of Kelly/True Temper Flint Edges. I think they're as fine of axe as you'll ever need. I have a Flint Edge Dynamic claw hammer (16oz. straight claw) that I really like.

Outstanding Square Peg.... I'm scanning the perimeter for a Kelly FlintEdge ax.;)
Does your "Dynamic" True Temper have the logo imprint of TT on the opposite
side of the Kelly FlintEdge logo ? Thanks.

Charles

Square_Peg, I have one of those as well. Does your Dynamic have a handle on it that's flattened on both sides about halfway up the haft, continuing somewhat onto the grip? Mine does that and it appears to be a handle type they used on that particular hammer as well as the oddly shaped hatchet in the Dynamic line.

Yep, that what mine looks like. Looks original. Just says, "Flint Edge Dynamic" in 2 lines. Doesn't say Kelly or True Temper. I believe all the Dynamics were made during the True Temper period.

The stamp on mine is the same. I've had a single bit and double bit that had True Temper DYNAMIC Kelly Works in three lines, both with phantom bevels. I have more questions about that but out of respect for the initiator, I won't continue to clutter his thread with an off-topic discussion.

Drum4fun, I highly recommend any of the older Kelly axes. I have several different makes from different eras and they have all been excellent. Flint Edge was the most common it seems but the steel from all of their lines is good quality.

Thanks Lunchbucket ! While searching out here in the desert Southwest for an acceptable Kelly FlintEdge single/double bit I stumbled upon a serviceable True Temper FSS Pulaski ...so that is now undergoing a meet-n-greet. I’ll post a thread when it returns to usable condition. In the meantime the FlintEdge search continues. Thanks , Charles
