Ok guys, I thought it be fun to test to see if your survival skills would hold up. The year is 2025 the world is in turmoil. There are riots everywhere, stock markets around the world have crashed. The reason for all the mayhem are as follows, oil prices are at a all time high 22 dollars a gallon. "it is said that we only have enough oil to last 20 more years so who knows what the oil of prices will be within 20 years" Power shortages world wide, global temperatures rising to an alarming rate causing massive draught and food shortages. A terrible f virus has been attacking the world population. Corruption by government and big business have caused things to spiral out of control. Law and order are non existent for the most part. Now your job is to find a means of surviving. Against all those predators out there in the street that would steal what is yours. The only rule survive is how smart you are and how tough you are.

1. You, decide that trying to survive in the city is a no go sooner or later your luck will run out. So, you make a plan to head up to the north west and live off the land.

Here’s the problem you are face with, you can carry as much provision as your car can carry. That means your going to be a prime target for road warriors and bandits to try and take you out. "they want all of your survival supplies. The bigger the rig or the flasher the ride the more attention your going to be getting and the less likely your going to make it to a safe harbor aka mountains of the northwest. YOU CAN’T PICK LIKE A SEMI AND DRAG YOUR HOUSE ALONG. It has to be a 4 wheel car or truck. Remember trucks and big suv are prime target because of the bad guys view it as prime picking . Now the other problem that you are face with is gas mileage, the more stops that you have to make in order to refill the less likely your going to make it. However, if you pick a slow car with great gas mileage, the bad guys wills surely outrun you and kill you if they attack you.

So, you see I made sure that all you gun ho types can’t pick like a tank and arm it up the ying yang its about compromise here. If your still reading at this point here where the fun comes in

1. Pick what kind of car or truck and tell why. "remember of the disadvantages of truck, good gas mileage car, fast cars, heavy cars. SUV ad 4x4 will get only 17 on highway, imports get 31 for the high performance 4 bangers and 40 for the econo box. Muscle cars get 23 on the high way so does basically most 4 door american car. Or japanese luxury car.

2. You can modify your car in whatever way you want, such as in adding fuel cells, armor plating. "Note the more heavier the car the slower its going to accelerate and the more gas that its going to guzzle, and the less supply you will be able to carry.

3. What sort of supplies are you going to carry with you. Remember too much weight will slow you car down which will make you prime pickings for road bandits. Etc, so pick carefully, make sure that all the items you pick will fit in your car. Any items on tied to the roof rack will alert bandits that you are carrying much needed supplies so they will hunt you down and kill you for sure.

So, now lets hear what everyone has to say about the choices that they are going to make as far as vechile, mods, blades, weapons etc… Remember pick wisely because you won’t be able to run down to the local store to pick up more supply your going to have to live off the land in the northwest where it snows and rains big time. Also expect to meet some confrontation such as road blocks which you will be able to drive through if your car is strong enough however the more punishment little cars take the less likely they will make it. Also expect the bad guys to try to ram you with their car aka mad max style. You have the right to shoot back remember that, if you elect to carry a weapon along. Remember, ammo is heavy so if you go for an machine gun its probably going to weigh your car down big time and you probably wouldn’t be able to use it while your driving because of the kick however it would come in handy at the gas stops.

Good luck all

H

Ok, I'll bite!

I'd pick the ugliest, most plain looking full size car of yesteryear I could find. Like an old Chevy Caprice, or an old Buick. Some minor body rust is even better.

Mods:
I'd want a 305 V8 that has some power, but doesn't guzzle like an alchoholic at an office new years party. Then, reinforce the front and put a steel plate behind the grille to protect the radiator. The air can still come up from the openings beneath the bumper, like modern cars do, so the car won't overheat. It's just that people will probably aim for the big flashy grille to knock out my radiator, so let 'em.

Armor plate on the back of my seat and headrest, and armor plating in the front doors. If I can get some police car doors, all the better, since they're lined with lightweight spectrashield instead of heavy plates.

TIRES! The achiles heel of the car... I don't need a comfy ride, so I'll cut the inside sidewall off the tires, insert a wide steel band flush with the tread, and weld it onto the rims with spokes. They'll look like normal but overinflated tires, but they'll be steel wheels with a centimeter or two of rubber coating.

Semiauto belt fed .30 rifle gets mounted on the passenger side, so I can reach over and swivel the thing forward or sideways and shoot one handed, and I may conjure up some built in gadjets that are simple (like a gun that shoots out the back of the car, or an injection system that pumps oil into the exhuast manifold for heavy smoke output).

Yep, sounds like the ride I'd want.

DOH! I forgot to mention. I'd have a knive with me.

happy camper excellent choice and the mods you have done to the car are very nice touch indeed. My congratulation for it being so well thought out, but however you forgot to mention what supplies you plan to carry with you. After all your bugging out for good and will be living off the land for the rest of your life

Remember folks once you get the car details out of the way, you must pack it with your bob kit or your bug out bag. So what will you bring along with you, since you are leaving the civilize world and will be living off the land in the northwest aka washington state or oregon.

Well the car is easy....A Hearse....Who's going to stop a hearse? and look at all the room for gear you'd have........and if it goes wrong you would at least get a decent burial.

As for the supplies.....every gun and round of ammunition I could get my hands on plus my whole collection of knives ( you just can't have too many....can always trade what I don't need)
Dried and tinned food, Rum ( for medicinal purposes of course) Bow and arrows, medical kit, tent, and a good radio. How does that sound?

This sounds like a Mad Max movie. What kind of car did he have? It probably doesn't satisfy the fuel efficency requirement and wouldn't pack much cargo.

Of course why are we all taking cars. If all you have is 30-60 lbs of gear and you alone get a motorcycle. A dual-sport or small cruiser (4-stroke engine) would get good mileage and you could hide it if necessary. Also motorcycle engines are simple and easy to modify so you might be able to rig it to run on alcohol if gas became scarce. It wont hold much armor but if it you alone in a fire fight with a bunch of punks a lot of armor probably won't help that much. If your alone it would be better to make a getaway and then hide.

The BOB would be camping gear (including an axe), some tools for the bike. 30-06 M-1 (easy to find bullets and replacement parts) and a 12 gauge shotgun.

Something like four horse power. Probably two horses and a couple of mules. Travel off the beeton path, as its safer, and so what if it takes you all year, you would still be alive. You'll beat the traffic jams anyway.

I'd take my air cooled VW van with the futon bed, fridge, propane stove, dual batteries, cabinets, 25 galon water tank, and cargo space....A more comfortable ride is not to be had....and I can live in it very comfortably if I need too. I'd look like a slightly bohemian traveller too poor to bother with.

As for supplies, a lot of dried corn, rice and beans, sugar and flour, a water filter, lots of ammo, a couple of select firearms, clothing adequate for both summer and winter, and as much extra fuel as I could cram in the extra space....

All I can say is, please don't come to Oregon; I'll be guarding the mountain passes that let you into the interior.

The horse and mule theory was interesting. You would look like a native and I wouldn't even bother you. But if you really want to fit in you'll have to wear tie-die and grow dreadlocks. But beware the booby traps, and if you see any seven-leaved plants growing in the woods, back up slowly and be sure to place your feet in the exact same spots you did on the way in!

As for me, since I'm already blessed enough to live in Oregon, I guess I'd have to walk out my back door and just keep on walking! Yep, life is rough up here.

I think I'll skip the madmax rush. I'll load up my honda atv on my ford truck along with all my gear and head a very short distance for what appears to be a relatively overlooked part of this country...the north central mountains of PA and southwestern foothills of NY. Those areas have plenty of spots to get lost and they have some of the prime deer herds in the US; not to mention plenty of other edible woodland critters and fish, good plentiful water, and great harvests of nuts fruits, and veggies. Best of all, contrary to popular opinion, there's even some decent folks in the area.

If the road warriors want to come play with me and mine, I have plenty for them

It's not the pace of life that concerns me, It's the sudden stop at the end.

Walk. One of the major problems then, as now, is oil shortage. So forget petro powered transportation. Walk. Take a BOB with a stainless Ruger 10/22, D2 Dozier Bowie, extra boots and socks, some wool and pile clothing, a couple ferrocerium rods, couple containers of vaseline soaked cotton balls, couple water containers and purifiers, a stainless medium size pot, protein bars and the wife. Enjoy the journey. Reconsider the direction, with a heavy consideration of heading south. We don't get out of here alive anyway.
