Which do you go to first for a ...."usual"..... cutting chore like string, a box, an envelope, etc?
I know I always go to the SAK first as the other one is harder to sharpen to the extent that a knife knut likes it.

  :jerkit: :D

I carry a large folder (Grip, Manix, etc.) and a SAK all the time. I use the large folder for nearly all my cutting chores unless I am in an environment where it may cause some nasty looks, then I use the SAK. After the initial sharpening/profiling, it only takes me 2 minutes to touch up the edge to scarey sharp since I take the time weekly to keep it that way.

SAK scissors first, and SAK blade second daily. S30V Rukus, a couple time a week, maybe.

My SAK on my keychain sees more use for it's secondary pieces, like the scissors or the pen. I rarely ever use the blade. It's always my main EDC that comes out, no matter what the cutting chore.

The SAK Classic on my keychain.

Unless I'm at home, in which case I use one of the carbon steel slipjoints I keep around for those types of tasks.

Just to clarify - I generally carry a BM 530 and a Delica 3 fully serrated (or Endura 3 fully serrated).
And if I'm out somewhere, I prefer using the SAK for things like opening envelopes, cutting string, etc.

If it's something that's a little too much for the SAK, I use the 530.

I carry my Cucchiara "Gecko", and an Alox Soldier. I use the Gecko first.

I usually EDC one of my Spydies and a SAK Tinker. I use the Spydie for heavy and dirty cutting chores and keep the SAK clean for food and will use it if in a situation that calls for a friendly looking blade.

Whatever my onehander is for most cutting, currently Spydie Paramilitary. The awl on my SAK for opening boxes sealed with that nasty tape. SAK in the office or around sheeple. I mainly carry the SAK for the tools.

An interesting question.....

After wearing a SAK Explorer on my side for the last 25 years, I most often go for my SAK first (it's auto pilot after this long. When the job is dirty, I'll go for the Stockman (CV), but when the job gets bigger or harder, I'll go to my BM RSK1.

The Stockman is seeing more and more work for such an old knife, I love the super thin hollow ground blades and there is just something timeless about the thing. All 3 knives get shaving sharp easily, but the s30v gets popping sharp.

I usually carry two larger folders and a Swiss champ daily.
If something needs cutting I use on of the larger folders, witch one depends on what hand is free. I like all the options on the champ, it never fails to amaze me in a pinch.

My work EDC is a CRKT M16-13SF combo blade tanto point. I also carry a 84mm tinker in my back pocket for the screwdrivers. The CRKT is used for most cutting tasks due to the convenience of one handed opening but the Tinker is the last one I will give up. I also keep a Victorinox Officers Champion in my backpack (no pliers) and a Gerber multiplier on my tool belt.

I carry an SAK classic on my car key ring, LM Micra on my house key ring and a locking blade in my back pocket. The locking blade is usually a Native III or BM Ascent. I carry the SAK and LM for their tools only. I actually use the screwdrivers more often than any of my cutting blades. I use the locking blade knife for all cutting chores.

I've worked with the same folks at work for years. They know I carry a knife, but more importantly, they know me, so I don't have to worry that they will freak if I use it.

If I'm in "society," I generally carry just a SAK. Sometimes and Endura 3 clipped to my back pocket if I want it on me for SD reasons when I go to bad areas around here. In less developed areas, it's a SAK and a Puukko or Opinel #10 / #12.

In the former scenario, the SAK is always used first. If it's a dirty job, like cutting holes in the ground or scraping unsavory muk from my boots, the Endura will get used. Outdoors, the Puukko or Opinel is used most the time because with extended wood working they're simply more comfortable and stronger under prying and poking actions. If I'm travelling light outside I'll carry just a SAK, as it's capable of most things I do. When it's rainy like it has been recently, batoning is a quick way to get some dry wood together for the fire though, which is the main reason the larger blades come along. If all I'm planning to do is whittle some basic tools for fun and make some shavings to get a little fire going so I can cook an apple, I'll just bring my SAK.

My EDC SAKs are Bantam, Camper and Farmer. The latter has kind of dropped out of favor since metal handles and cold weather don't mix very well.

I usually grab the keys out of my back pocket, use the boker subcom on em. The SAK usually only gets used if I need a screwdriver or bottle opener :p

I've long since gotten past worrying what ppl think of my toys. I don't go out of my way to use a 4" serrated to open a bag of chips, but I also don't only carry 2" knives. Usually a combo of 4" serrated and 2" plain... use whichever one is suitable for the task and screw the sheep.

The SAK first. Most of my cutting jobs can be handled with just a SAK; the big blade only comes out for the big jobs.

I always carry a big folder, Spyderco Stretch,Endura or RAT folder.
In the other pocket there is my Victorinox Soldier or Centurion.
There are so many jobs that you can do with a SAK and not with a single bladed folding knive. For instance the big screwdriver blade is a very versatile
tool. The SAK is "daddies little helper". The Soldier also dont raise eyebrows.
