I'm going to try a little experiment on my own, but I thought I would start a thread because... well... that's what we do here, right ? :D

I have a lot of knives... but I want to try and get by on only 3 for any given task over the next few weeks or months and review progress.

Given that these 3 need to cover a wide range of duties from opening an envelope, to hiking or camping... I have chosen 3 of my favorites....

1. ZT0500 MUDD... 154CM
2. 1670BRNSG2 Blur... SG2
3. 1720 sm. JunkYard Dog

alternate Ive had trouble deciding over:
2. 1850 Tyrade

Let me know if you think I need to substitute 1... but I can only have 3, and they need to cover a wiiiiiide range.

NO FIXED BLADES (even if that makes sense)
 
OE, i though that you weren't the biggest fan of the Tyrade? have you changed your mind? nice choices btw.

i think i would have to have the JYD2, ZT0200, and the Leek or Needs Work. kind of a toss up between the last two.

Well, you certainly surprised me, OL. I thought for sure one of them would be... well... you know :D.

I'd go with my ZT 0500, my Lahar, and my Leek in ZDP.

Can I guess Dann's answer? Can I? Can I? :)

Good choices from both of you as well.

well, "you know" is my baby. Baby only gets used to scare my friends into respect of sharp objects without hurting them (they are dense, some of them). if i had the g-10 (which i will get eventually), then it would be on my list. :D

The 3 in my rotation as of now...
1 - Groove (Tanto)
2 - TiZDP Leek
3 - Needs Work

I think it will change when the RAM and CB Leek make it to my hands.

VERY HARD to choose just three, but I think I would go with these:

1430 wild wild turkey (Titanium)
1431 wild turkey ( G10)
ZDP189 Leek
 
Hmm, you didn't say they had to be all folders, right?
I'd want:

Outcast D2
ZT 301
Cyclone ZDP

Figure that'd cover me for camping (FB, although it is a big one), tactical folder, & a smaller folder.
 
I think the 3 you've picked are a good mix. The small JYD can be for general carry. The SG2 Blur will slice and slice and slice some more, so that'd be good for any food work or you need to do, and then the Mudd will handle the heavy chores. I might personally switch out the JYD for a Leek, if only for it being slimmer and more discreet carry-wise.

if you don't answer.... ALL your kershaws will disappear and be replaced by the 72 piece Frost cutlery bowie collection... worth an esitmated $1.24 per knife
 
Well, Frost doesn't sound as bad as having Odell stop by for supper...but just in case...

ZT0200 - takes care of just about anything
ENER-G (the big 'un) - need a slicer/surgical knife
MC Ti/ZDP - what more could I want?

If those won't do, then the one I must have with me would be the Offsettyradegrooveminimojoleekbigcyclonesmallcycloneshallotscallionjydneedsworkandtimsprototypeweveseenandthrowinanoutcastlaharbothbumpsandatorxtool.

...are my Kershaws safe now? Will Odell stop by my house?
