Sorry if this is a common topic (If you could only have one knife??) but with the Holidays coming I'm debating on which knives I really want to add to my collection. So I thought it would be cool to see what knives you all like in certain price ranges. So if you could have 1 knife in each of the following price ranges, what would they be?

1. $30-60
2. $60-90
3. $90-120
4. $120-150
5. $150-200

Examples might be:

1. Spyderco Cricket SS PE
2. Spyderco Native s30v
3. BM806D2
4. Camillus Dominator
5. Spyderco A.T.R.

Then for fun, maybe you could tell us out of those 5, if you could only have 1 of them, which one it would be and why? Hopefully this will help people see what people like in certain price ranges. Also if you want to list any favorites in higher prices ranges, go for it.

ok, simple...

*Spydie FRN/SE Endura
*5" fixed on left(have a spydie fb05 temp, that works, though I'd prefer a dead on 5" custom)1
*2-3" fixed on right(have a 3" custom coming in a trade next week)
*Spydie ss dragonfly
*single blade slipjoint(have a 3" w/ about 20-25lbs resistance, lambsfoot blade)

If I could only have five, I would insist on:

1. Spyderco Jester/Ladybug - Keychain knife
2. Leatherman Micra/Squirt - Handy Multi-tool
3.Spyderco Native S30V - Basic EDC
4.Obenauf Mini Model II Framelock - Nice Custom EDC
5.William Henry Monarch - Functional & practical Gents knife

I think that at least one of these should be serrated, probably the Jester or maybe the Native. Although I don't need it, I would prefer to have at least one knife over 3.5" but I don't absolutely need one, so I dropped it from my list.

Bit hard with difference between Oz$ and US$ but here goes:

1. Katz Vet's Knife
2. Schrade OldTimer Stockman
3. Schrade OldTimer BuzzSaw
4. Dozier Companion
5. Dozier Master Hunter

1 2 3 & 5 are in my possession the other awaits finances.

1: Greco MST fixed blade - Only fixed blade that I'll ever need

2: Greco Falcon Folder - Excellent all-purpose work/chore knife

3: BM 690 - For the office and with a suit

4: BM 550 Griptilian blade swapped into BM 720 handle - EDC. Mine didn't quite hit this price range, but if I paid myself for my labor it would have.

5: Victorinox Swisstool and $80 in cash - Sorry, I honestly can't think of another knife that I would want, much less one that costs $150+

Actually, these are the only five knives that I own. Many have come and gone to reach this point, but I'm very happy with what I have. I seem to have all my bases covered, and then some.

It's been this way for almost a year now, and I don't see it changing anytime soon. It appears as thought I might be done buying knives for quite some time.

I would amend my list because i see the Obenauf missed your cutoff by $83. If I couldn't have the Obenauf, I would take a BM 921 Switchback.

$30.00-$60.00 - Spyderco Delica Lightweight. I have used this knife and like it. Nice and tight construction and good materials. Yes, I even like the FRN handle.

$61.00-$90.00 - Ontario Rat-7. I like 1095 and Micarta and this looks like a great camp/bush knife for the money.

$91.00-&120.00 - Fallkniven F-1 with Micarta handle. Only had the chance to handle this at a knife shop, but it really impressed me.

$121.00-$150.00 - PCKS customized Buck 110, with stag handle, nickel silver bolsters and damascus blade. I have owned a Buck 110 for more than 35 years. I love this knife.

$151.00-$200.00 - GenO Denning GM with stag handle. A great value in custom hunter.

Right now, my choice out of all these would be the Buck 110.

In acending monetary order (NOT order of preference):

Victorinox Tinker Red - ($15-$20)
Spyderco Fred Perrin - ($80)
Spyderco Carbon Fiber Delica Plain Edge - ($85)
Spyderco Military Plain Edge S30V - ($90)
Gene Ingram #7 Drop Point - ($125)

...And, if I could only have one knife for the rest of my life to be used for EVERYTHING from Outdoor Survival, to Urban Self Defense EDC, to Kitchen Chores, to Opening Envelopes, I think I'd have to pick:

The Spyderco Military Plain Edge S30V!!!

(I think, anyway...Mine's on it's way to me as I write this, but I believe that's the one knife that could do everything well, except maybe chopping down trees, which is what a nice Gransfors Bruks Wildlife Hatchet is for!)

PS - This is never an easy game to play...

$30-60 Spyderco PE Native III.
$60-90 Spyderco SS SE Police model.
$90-120 Gerber Yari.
$120-150 Al Mar SERE 2000.
$150-200 Camillus CUDA CQB-1.

I might be off on the price values that were listed, but these are the 5 favorites of the ones that I currently own.

30--60, Spyderco Endura, partially serrated, stainless handle,
60--90, Spyderco Temperance, black blade, smooth edge
90-120, Victorinox Swisschamp XLT
120--150 Benchmade Switchback, blue handle, part serrated blade
150--200 Any high end Emerson

It's a good question. I think the five choices should also cover all possible types of uses and functions of a bladed tool. When all five choices have been filled, all ranges of edged tool use should be covered.

$30-$60: Queen D2 large stockman

$60-$90: Leatherman ST200

$90-$120: Al Mar SERE 2000

$120-$150: Swamp Rat Battle Rat

$150-$200: Dozier Professional Guide Knife

I'm not exactly sure about the prices on these but I'd say:

Spydie Delica - small working folder
spydie Fred Perrin - do-all medium FB
Spydie Military - large working folder
Swamp Rat Battle Rat - big blade
William Henry CF lancet - gentleman's knife

those should pretty much do anything you need to do.

My choises would be something like this:

1. $30-60: Benchmade Mini TSEK
2. $60-90: Swamp Rat Bandicoot (or Howling Rat, depending on use)
3. $90-120: Busse Assault Shaker
4. $120-150: Swamp Rat Camp Tramp, desert coat
5. $150-200: I'd say my Camillus CQB-1, but if something else, it would be a Dozier Agent.

Fun thread!
