This is chilling. Most people don't know I carry a pocket Glock 26. But stories like this are damn good reasons. I want to say something when some dum dum says, "Why would ANYONE want to carry a gun?"

I began carrying the day MLK got shot, I began with a Vernadelli 380 and have rarely been without something. I have a 'concealed carry' license, which is simple to get in Georgia.

Almost quit carrying a few years ago and then a Xerox repairman shot and killed several people in a cold, undefined, meaningless rage.

Now the Glock 26 is daily attire. Maybe I'll get a 27 in .40 cal.

Every time I put it in my pocket I hope that I will not have to use it. But if I hear the pop pop pop, I WILL be ready.

And I DO like an "assault" rifle for hunting. Like the guy in the other post said, it is an industrial duty sporting arm. It won't jam, it won't break, it won't let me down.

A .50 cal black powder smooth-bore is an assault weapon - used for assault in the Revolution, Civil War, Great Plains conquest etc. etc. etc. For that matter, a bow and arrow is an assault weapon. I'm sure a determined archer could cut down a half dozen people without much trouble

Anyway, this is a sad, sad day for reasonable, responsible people, not to mention those who lost their lives. :(

I used to be an assault weapon. Now I am a spent cartridge, a mere shell of my former self.

Crazy f%ck.
B$stard is going to ruin everything for all of us.
Im certain the most important thing for the press will be to remind us how wonderful his people are and how this is all the fault of his evil weapon.

I am shocked myself. My great grandmother was shot and killed in a hunting accident. (she was using the "toilet" in a bush) She was shot by my great grandfather who thought she was a bear. Frankly, I never believed that story.
I think he knew what he was doing.

Anyway, May God help those people's families.

Oops! There has been violence with the mung people hunting in that area before.....
From the news :

"Police identified the shooter as Chai Vang, 36, a hunter from St. Paul, Minn., who is a member of the Twin Cities' Hmong community. While authorities do not know why he allegedly opened fire, there have been previous clashes between Southeast Asian and white hunters in the region.

Locals have complained that the Hmong, refugees from Laos, do not understand the concept of private property and hunt wherever they see fit. In Minnesota, a fistfight once broke out after Hmong hunters crossed onto private land, said Ilean Her, director of the St. Paul-based Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans. "

You're probably worse than that- a spent obsolete cartridge, a black powder round, chambered for no firearms today.

True. But the wise individual will realize I am actually a priceless antique with clues to forgotten history and valuable links to the past which can lead to understanding the present and even give hints to opening secret doors to the future.

Local news reports:

Shooter was a 36 year-old, 25 year resident of the U.S., spent 6 years in U.S. military service, had two domestic violence calls (charges not pressed by wife) dropped, one police charge for waving a gun in an argument with his wife.

Not being treated as hunting accident, but as multiple homicide.

Last report has him being lost in the woods, going to tree stand to hunt, being told he was trespassing and to leave the tree stand, climbing down, walking 40 yards, taking the scope off the SKS and then opening fire, and continuing to shoot as help to the wounded arrived on ATVs.

Don't think this was a culture clash, think the guy was nuts.

Typical band-wagon jumpers-on have sought TV time on AWB, most Wisconsin folks are shaking their heads and saying "he is nuts." 180 population in Rice Lake, everybody knows everybody.

So, you do know the address of the Hookah house, right?

The one I was talking about, that Bill showed me years ago, is no longer there. In it's place is the park headquarters for the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.

The area is unique because of it's many underground springs of fossil water that are habitat to the Amargosa Pup Fish and other species that exist nowhere else in the world.

After a lengthy court battle, it was decided that ancient minnows were a more valuable resource than aging hookers. The remains of several historic ranch sites were also demolished because of the fear that "hippies" would take up residence there.

Ash Meadows is located about 10 miles east of Death Valley Junction, and 22 miles north of Parhump, home of the famous Chicken Ranch Brothel, and the Paranoid Palace, the residence of Art Bell. I don't know if Art Bell is still there, and last I heard the Chicken Ranch was going to close.

But here's a place at Lida that you might like. It's located north of Beatty and south of Goldfield: http://home.pacbell.net/ptg701/pics/cottontail.jpg

Bill might know something about it. Not that he's an expert in Nevada whorehouses or anything like that, but he has spent a lot more time in the area than I have.

Better hope Bill sees that post before Yangdu does!

Last I heard both houses in Mineral County are still open, one on the highway between Coaldale and Bishop whose name I may never have known, and the one south of Mina, by the name of Billie's Day and Night. There used to be one 10 or 15 miles out of Hawthorne named the Doll House, but it burned down maybe 20 years ago. There still is a house at Salt Wells 10 or 15 miles east of Fallon, for the Navy and others in the area. Can't remember the name of the one 20 miles south of Goldfield.// edit: just used your link and Cottontail IS the one outside Lida Junction I was talking about.//

Matter of fact, there used to be a house in Mina, just over the railroad tracks, and behind a fence so folks could park their cars and not be seen. That was way, way back, and it shut down. Then the Sheriff quit and the County Undersheriff ran for Sheriff but made the mistake of marrying the former madam the day before the election. He lost. Then sometime after that his wife got peeved at him for some reason and ran him out of their home with a 357 right in the middle of town. Fortunately the copshop was only a few ( 6? ) blocks away and came to his rescue.

edit// On re-reading, the thread veered so far I forgot, sorry to say,the original subject. Truely saddening what people do to each other.//

This is a good lesson for us. You need to consider the idea of sensing evil intent from others, even ones you might ordinarily trust.
Let your instincts protect you even when things appear to be normal.

The thing is, the folks who became victims were armed with high-powered rifles in all liklihood.
That article link that was posted said "the hunting party had only one gun among them."
Some of them were probably there, not to hunt, but just to tag along and have fun watching.
What a tragedy. :(

the last thing on my mind would have been to draw down on another guy I met in a blaze-orange jacket

Yeah, I kind of think that a responsible hunter is going to have a higher priority on not killing people than on killing deer. Of course there are also irresponsible hunters, but this guy is in a whole 'nother category.
