We are having a real whammy of an ice storm that mother nature has unleashed here where I live. They are saying it won't end until Wed so based on the number of power outages we've already had today and the fact that some towns around us are already out of power I may as well put this out there, get that? The whole town is dead!

Anyway, based on this infor for surrounding towns I may be absent for a bit if our power goes out for an extended period of time on us again here. So far its flickered on and off, went out completely and then came back on and then went out for about 10 minutes and came back on. So I'm just figuring we'll have to deal with this for the next few days.

May end up pulling up the mattress by the wood stove and hanging blankets to section off the room like we had to one other year when this happened. I guess if it comes to that we'll just camp out there if we lose all other sources of heat.

Just FYI. Hopefully it won't happen but if anyone tries to reach me and wonders why I haven't gotten back in my usual quick fashion you'll know why.

Good luck up there. I'm just N.W. of OKC and we have had those same short outages but so far we are hanging in there. I think we have everything stockpiled and ready to go in case it does go out.

Hang in there and check back in when you can if you go off grid for awhile.

Yep. I think we'll be ok. If I have to I can cut up some wood in the shed using the generator and the electric chain saw in a pinch, but I'm hoping I cut and split enough already to get us by for the next few days.

I should have added that you guys expecting some stuff in the mail from me that will hopefully go out tomorrow should be aware that there may be delays. Flights have been cancelled and this ice has literally shut down the town. I'll be surprised if they go out tomorrow even if the mail man picks up like usual.

Already have the generator by the back door, firewood piled up by the back door, emergency backup battery system by the front door, and propane space heaters all laid out and ready to go. I hope niether of us needs any of it but it's looking more and more like we will.

Good luck.

I'll take 12" of snowfall anyday of the week over this ice! I could barely walk to the shop or to the paper this morning without busting my a$$!

I had to break into the side door of my shop. The large drive through doors were sealed shut with ice........at least snow you can shovel away. I look really silly sneaking out the back door with my wifes hair dryer, especially since I shave my head.

Be careful tomorrow morning. I'm sure it's as bad or worse there than it is here but things have gotten much worse over the past 6 hours or so here.

Wow!!! Long time no see.... Stay safe and warm over there STR!!! And I fully understand what you mean with ICE instead of snow....

Be safe, be warm...

STR, here in southwest MO we are having flashback's of Jan's ice storm. I can hear timber breaking down around us and it is still icing. Good luck! Keep the wood stove running!!!

A few years ago we had a storm similar to this that took a lot of branches down. It was a prime time for picking up free dead ready to burn fire wood but what a mess it made of everything.

I'm hearing a lot of crackling outside also. I'm thankful we paid a guy a few years agot to take down all our big trees and all the ones with branches hanging precariously over power, cable and phone lines. Hopefully we won't have to mess with losing ours to where we need an electrician again.

If we do it will be from a transformer or from someone slamming into a light pole or something.

You couldn't pay me to drive in this stuff man!

I'm camping out here.

STR, just checking to see how you fared last night. Get ready for round two.

We lost power about 3 am and it didn't come back on until about 7 am so there for a while it was lights out all over the immediate area around us. Something tells me its going to be a long few days here. I won't be getting much done with the electric kicking on and off but we'll see.

I forgot to mention that I went out to the box to put my mail in it to send out this morning and man, I couldn't even get in it without having a blow torch and a hammer!

I chipped at it for about five minutes thinking it would give but no luck. Can't get in my cars either.

I did see the mail truck drive up the street but he didn't stop at a single house. If I can catch him I may still be able to get what I have mailed out today. We'll see.

Gee, I shouldn't do this, but its in the mid-70s here today. I hope the storm breaks soon.

Hang on!

:)

April's folks (my wife) told us it was in the 70s also in Memphis Tenn. yesterday where they live. Quite a contrast. We're wondering here how long each outage of power will last.

Hey steve,

We lost power at 3 yesterday afternoon, it came back on at 5 this morning, went back out at 7 this morning and finally came back on at 1:30p.m.

This junk sucks!!!!

It sure does suck! My most reliable means of communication after the power goes out is the cell phone and even that has been sporatic.

I'll be glad when this is over. Got a heck of a clean up in store for us in Oklahoma when this weather breaks.

we are still without power here in southwest MO. able get on the net thanks to a battery powered lap-top. Absolute mess over here. will take a full day just to cut limbs up that have fallen. Had a couple trees loose their tops....
