SOB or TGLB?

No specific need in mind other than general usage. No real reason for either, just want a bigger fixed blade than those I have now.

So smaller, maybe more generally useful SOB, or the larger TGLB.

What is your choice and why?

I don't have a SOB but having owned a tglb I'd have to go with that option. Simply because my pholosaphy is a bigger blade can always be used for smaller tasks while it's not always t true in reverse. In reality though I'd take both :)

two completely different monsters. It says you are in Charlotte. Not too familiar but I have a feeling its a big city since it has pro sport teams. Sob will be more city friendly. If you live in the woods then, well Id still probably go SOB. The TG is certainly more impressive but would have a hard time believing it to be more useful then a badger unless in warfare.

Wasn't it Hood that said a big knife can do what a small knife can do, but a small knife can't do what a big knife can do?

Let's just say "Charlotte Area". There are plenty of nice rural activities around these parts. This would be used camping, etc at most. It's unlikely I would cart either around on a daily basis save perhaps in the vehicle.

I have had both and IMO SOB. All these people talking about a small blade ect. The sob is almost a 5 inch blade. It's more than enough for pretty much any situation. The team Gemini lb is a very cool knife if your killing zombies and what not but for 95 percent of situations I bet the sob will work better

This is pretty much what I was thinking, and logical. But........what about the zombies?

I would go with the SoB for the reasons already mentioned.

Edit: the zombies would be no match for the badger.

I edc a tglb... it gets alot of looks but I don't care. Its a good length for any and all tasks I put it to. I have held sobs and have to say I prefer the feel of the tglb. I also find the punks around here straighten up when they see a fixed blade on the hip. Wish it was a pistol.

I would go TGLB, as others have said you can do the small camp tasks with the larger knife but it would be very hard to fell a tree or chop said tree into smaller pieces with a SOB.

If chopping is not a consideration and only small camp chores are what you are doing than the SOB would be great.

I have a couple of each and love them all.

Only you can chose what would be best for you.

they are about the same money.

Hope that helps.

Im gonna say.... ummmm........ pork shank:) lol but in all seriousness id say sob, im sure youll need smaller blade over a bigger one atleast 90% of the time.

Your are correct. That was an expression coined by the late Rod Hood. In most circumstances, I think Ron is right as his experiences exceeds most. However, dericdesmond does make some valid points when you take into account an urban and at times a politically jaded environment. It is a toolbox and you pack what you will carry and ultimately be able to use well.

TGLB is awesome but I would select SOB and save up for an ASHBM. SOB is a perfect size for most work. If you need to chop, get a chopper.

If you want a do-all, and no more knives, TGLB will fit the bill.

Best of luck in your decision. Lets see some pics! :D

Humm.
If you already have a knife you like that's close to the size of the SOB, then I'd go TGLB. It's a bit bigger and heftier than the 3 - 5" knives.

Like jazub said, if you're thinking at all about getting a big 'ole Chopper some time, then I'd go for the SOB, save your money and get an ASHBM or an NMFBM to go with it.
That would be a great pair!

I went that way for our bug-out packs with an NMFBM and an AMSMO and piggy backed the sheaths:

Just a thought... ;)

Evltcat has got a good idea. He's thinking system. Busse makes great knives at each end of the spectrum. If you don't have one (large) or the other(small). Get the SOB first.

If you can only afford one the TGLB is a good choice. That large index choil mean that you can choke up on that blade for more delicate work....the type of work that a smaller knife is best at.

Personally I was hooked to a NMFBM first. I worked it backwards..... Then the AMSMO (same as pictured above) came next..... Rodent3..... Now expecting a SOB..... And scrapivore. Problem now is....who do I take out with the NMFBM. My guess is it'll be the SOB.:)

Of the two choices, I like the SOB better. They're both wonderful in their own right and Eric is correct in saying that they are two completely different monsters. The SOB just has a little bit more appeal to me.

The SOB is a NICE knife! I was skeptical at first but after I was able to handle one, I was impressed. It would seem to be an excellent general purpose knife. If you're a die hard Walking Dead fan, well them Team Gemini, but for anything normal you'd want to do with a knife, SOB.

If you like the Comp finish (I do), many are available post-blade show.

IMO, if you want to chop something down, just get an axe.

I have both. The SOB is really growing on me. It is a perfect all around use knife. That said I would never let my TGLB go.
