If you had to sell all of them, but one, which would it be?

Let's say you had to sell all of your knives for money, for whatever reason you can come up with......
Which one would be the last knife in your sock drawer....
Someone asked which knife would you take with you to the grave. Some of you didn't want to buried with a knife.
So, I tried to come up with a situation that would get the same answer, more or less, that more people could relate to.
For me, I'm pretty sure it would be a sturdy medium sized fixed blade all around user that I could use for all jobs big and small. ie. small enough for fine jobs, but tough enough for bigger jobs.
I really like folders, but if I'm going to have just one, I'd rather not trust a folder.
I only have one knife that really fits that criteria right now, an it's my Boker Integral.

FWIW i would keep my pat crawford perfigo ti w/a polished blade and pocket clip and stud, a very nice, sturdy well locking knife, i wont ever sell this one unless its for an emerson custom CQC8.

I would keep my Buck 110 finger groove with the one-arm bandit. I think if I could only have one, it would have to an awful lot of work and that 110 is up to it.

I think I'd keep my large Sebenza. I'd really hate to see my small Sebenza go, but the large can do everything the small can and then some.

my 4" meula "survival" (skinner blade), PIK-AS... I know it can take a lot of abuse. 4.5" (or so) cutting edge, thick spine to allow bearing down on, choil and guard to allow choking up on blade, including full blade in palm.

Been using it since 97... krayton handle, nylon guard, 440C double hollow grind.

Eh hard question But I would go with my SERE 2000, would be the best all around knife, easy enough to carry for EDC, Big enough for Tactical, Strong enough for working and chopping, Durable enough to last a life time.

If I had to keep one knife it would be my Large Sebenza. If I could break it down into main categories they would be as follows:

Folder: Large Sebenza
Auto: Severtech
Fixed Blade: Strider

Sell 'em all because I needed the cash? If prostitution didn't raise the necessary spondulicks (:barf: ) I'd keep the SERE 2000. It's a "do anything" knife.

Walking Man,
I've been sitting here trying to narrow this down for about 10 mins. now and I feel that I just can't make this decision. I suppose what I would need is a situation that would cause me to absolutely have to choose. So, if I really had to grab just one knife as I head out the door for an emergency, like say a meteor was about to strike the planet and tear the hell out of all houses and buildings, then I could maybe say the knife I would take with me to the bomb shelter (assuming there is one) would be my Marble's 7" Trailmaker made from 5160 steel.

I would want a fixed blade for it's general toughness and reliability. I'd want a larger fixed blade like this for the reason that you can always use a bigger blade for small blade tasks but it's allfully difficult to do this in the reverse (i.e chopping small trees down). Also, I would prefer the convex grind of this blade for ease of sharpening.

A close second would have been my Marble's Campcraft 2000 with it's convex ground 4.25" blade made from 52-100 steel. It fell into second place merely due to it's size.

So, other than a earthwide emergency, I just simply couldn't choose one but I could maybe make a short list of say....10 or so!?!?;)

That's easy: I'd keep a Sebenza. Now, deciding which Sebenza to keep, that would be tough.

For whatever foolish reason, I have asked myself this question many times. I strongly prefer fixed knives over folders due to their inherent simplicity, but for everyday use indoors a folding knife makes more sense to me. If it were an issue of money or something like that, I would have a VERY hard time deciding between my BM Leopard or my BM 941D2DF. The Leopard is much more comfortable to use and a good size (3 ¾” blade) for just about anything short of cleaning elk or moose. The 941D2CF is a little smaller and more sheeple friendly, definitely more comfortable to carry everyday and IMHO a better steel (D2). My opinion may change soon, I am impatiently waiting for the Camillus Dominator, from it's pictures I feel it would be the ultimate folding knife.

If the sky was falling, the world ending or a truely catastrophic event, then I would definitely choose a straight knife as folder has to many weaknesses (hinge point for dirt, fluids, etc and never as strong as a good fixed blade). I would then grab my Gerber 450 (M2 blade and cast aluminum handle with “cats tongue” finish”) or a knife I made from CPM10V steel and Cocobolo handle (very similar to the Marble’s Campcraft, actually a copy from the book Camp and Trail Methods written by E. Kreps back in 1913). If all truth be told and the sky was falling, the first thing I would grab would be an axe, then a knife. IMHO, in a wilderness setting where building a fire or shelter is a necessity I believe an axe would be more practical than a knife, if I could only have one. Go ahead, beat me up if you like, but pure pragmatism tells me get an axe first.

Folder...My stainless fully-serrated Spyderco Police model.
Fixed....My Gerber Yari.

Of THOSE two, I would have to go with the Yari, IF I could legally carry a concealed fixed-blade.

If I suddenly had to pick just one knife, without knowing what conditions I would be living under, I would choose my Darrel Ralph Madd Maxx (4" spearpoint recurve in Talonite). That knife is small, light, and socially acceptible almost anywhere but tough and reliable enough for serious emergency use.

If it were a "head for the hills" situation where I expected to be living in wilderness conditions I would choose my Bob Dozier Texas #6 (5-1/2" spearpoint with false edge in D2). This is the most versatile knife I own and it seems likely to hold up under any abuse.

Umm, I'd sell things I didn't really need, like my shoes and clothes before any knives had to go! :D

While it's not my favorite knife, it is my most practical in a single knife world. I would have to keep my REKAT Savant. It's about the perfect size for EDC and moderately hard work. It has a good lock. It is strong. It is not too scary to use around non-knife people. The blade is short enough to be legal in most areas. However, it's boring and ugly.

My second choice is my Buck PCKS 110. Unfortunately, it's too heavy to be a "townie" edc. Definately a rural or labor oriented EDC, but I spend my time in offices. It's a looker though and strong to boot.

Third would be my Buck Mini-Strider. It has most of the good qualities of the Savant, but the blade is a tad short for it to be the only knife I own.

How in the hell did I go for years with a single SAK or stockman?

Chris
