Alright guys,

Out of boredom, I decided strip the clip on my BM 710. It's the plain edge, uncoated D2 version.

Okay, I'm holding the clip, screw side up, sanding away, and there is a tiny jagged strip of the coating that WILL NOT come off. Upon closer inspection, there is something stamped across the clip.

If you are holding the clip with the triangular, screw side up, the stamp is right where the metal bends, below the screw holes. It's so shallow that if the coating was still on the knife, it might not even be noticeable. You can barely feel it if you run a finger nail across it.

Now, I MUST know what it says!! :D

If you have a 710, you have stripped your clip, and you have a microscope or even a magnifying glass, please look for this stamp and let me know.

Thanks guys!

Haha, funny.

Nah, it's definately a sentence...or at least a series of words or letters, I just can't read it.

That's what I thought too...

But it's definately something there. To the right of the "E" in "BENCHMADE", and turned 90 degrees to the right.

My only other guess would be that is says U.S.A. also but it sounds kinda strangely placed. I think perhaps you should just head to your local powdercoater and give him a couple bucks to media blast the clip.

not on mine .but mine is 2 or 3 yrs. may be 4 yrs i dont record buy.

No, it's way longer than 3 letters.

This is really bugging me, I might take it to a jewler and just have him tell me what it says.

I see what you're talking about now. But I don't think its a stamp. I think its just a tool mark. Its in the valley right under the screw holes.

Edit: Right here?

Yeah, right there.

But with the coating gone, and the shapes of the markings, I'm almost sure it's letters.

Hell if I know though, I've got a hand lens on the way to check it out.

It says, "The black helicopters are on the way." :p

Walthers are nice, but I'll always prefer my method of hot lead acceleration and the classic badassery of my happy and worn 710.
