If you have a Paramilitary 2 AND an Ontario Rat 1 may I have your attention?

I have an Ontario Rat 1 but I keep lusting over the PM2. The Rat 1 is just a tad bigger than I prefer for normal EDC tasks and it looks (on paper) that the PM2 is slightly smaller with regards to blade length, closed length, overall length, and weight so it sounds very appealing.

My questions are: How does the PM2 carry 'in the pocket' compared to the Rat 1? Does it feel wide in pocket?

Do you always feel it there? Do you have difficulty pulling items from the same pants pocket with the PM2 in it?

The Rat 1 is 5 ounces and definitely feels like it, does the PM2 truly feel like 3.75 ounces? (does it feel heavier or lighter?)

Do any of you have any side-by-side horizontal pictures of the PM2 next to the Rat 1 on their spines to demonstrate the width of each knife?

For a frame of reference, my normal EDC that I carry about 90% of the time is a Delica 4, I carry a Cryo once in a while as well.

Sorry for all the nit picky questions. I appreciate any input.

Both knives carry amazingly well and neither feels too heavy, imo. I could carry either and forget it's there until I need it. Sorry, no spine thickness comparison pics but maybe these will help show off the other dimensions with a few other popular folders...

Good luck! :)

Thanks, Brett. It looks like the handles themselves are about the same size, but that thumb ramp & spydie hole on the PM2 make it look so wide.

I'm afraid it will be too wide and cumbersome in pocket, such was the case with the Sage 1 that I eventually sold.

I have a Para 2 and I have carried ti for about a year. It does not feel nearly as cumbersome as the Rat 1. Just my opinion.

You might want to take a look at the Rat 2. I found both the Rat 1 and the PM too big, but the Rat 2 fits like it was made for me.

Cool, thanks. Much appreciated. How do you like the handle on the PM2?

Ordered a Rat 2 a couple days ago, and should be here tomorrow.

I just can't stop lusting over the PM2 though... ;)

If you can find a PM2 in stock at a normal price, you might as well go for it. If you don't like it, you cab probably sell it without even taking a lost. They're still being listed for 125-135 on the forums.

The PM2 is a fantastic knife and is the one I like best, overall, from the ones in my photos. When carried tip-up, the hump sits lower in the pocket and doesn't feel cumbersome in the least. On a side note, I think the RAT-1 can hold it's own with the rest of 'em, which I find astonishing at a fraction of the cost! ;)

Good point. I check the for sale forum several times a day for one, I just need to convince myself to buy one already. :)

I think you've made up my mind. Although I do prefer tip-up, I might be able to make an exception.

Don't worry about it, I'm a pretty small guy (6ft, 160lbs) and I carry an Extrema Ratio Nemesis - 8oz and it's fine.

I feel it's more about the design of it when it's folded over the weight

I appreciate the input, fellas. Thanks a lot.

Now to decide on a color combo

I've carried both and never noticed a difference in weight while in my pocket. The pm2 did feel much wider than the rat 1. If I had the pm2 on me, I tried to keep other items out of that pocket.

Pm2 feels much lighter in the pocket. My RAT 1 kinda pulls my pocket open, PM2 is slightly thinner in profile, but much lighter. The weight of the PM2 feels like its in the blade whereas the RAT1 feels like the weight is in the handles.

The pm2 is in a whole other class compared to the Rat 1. I own both and I wouldnt feel comfortable using my PM2 the way I use my rat, and vice versa. The PM2 is noticeably lighter, has a more solid lockup, feels slimmer in hand while still being able to get a good/comfortable grip. The steel is worlds away when it comes to edge retention. All that being said, I like having my rat because I know its able to be beaten on, pried with, and abused and I dont even care.

PM2
Slimmer in pocket compared to the rat
stays out of the way until I need it

I have an Endura (no delica) and the PM2 has a similar profile in pocket. It does seem to carry a bit deeper which is nice.
