If you have BOTH a Native and a Delica...

Which is easiest to open? Which do you use the most (or carry)

Like to get some opinions for decision.

I.....like....the VG10 in both.

I have a Native and a Salt 1 (Which is the same handle shape as the delica) Native wins hands down.

I love the natives ergos, it's the only knife that bumps the Millie out of my EDC rotation.

My subjective impressions:

I think the Delica is easier to open because its thumb hole is more accessible. One of the only things I dislike about the Native is the partially buried hole. Even so, the Native is not a problem to open.

I carry the Native more because it seems sturdier (blade and handle) and it is ergonomically great (except for obscured hole).

Since you want the VG-10, you must want the Native III.

I love that knife, but I will be honest, it does take a Herculean effort to open. I have heard other comment on this also. Other than that, I love the knife.

I like the Endura, but have never gotten "bitten" by the Delica.

I, for one, love the wire clip of the Native III, I know some don't.

For my money I would get the Native, just a cooler knife.

Lavan,I did have both. The Native is a great knife but didn't fit my hand well.I traded it away but kept the Delica.I have several Enduras and they fit me better than any other knife produced so that's what I carry.See which one feels best to you and then decide.tom. :)

I have them both. While the Golden Earth Native (440V steel) had the smoothest action I ever saw at a FRN Spydie, I can't tell the same thing about the Seki made knives (VG-10 Native III and Delica included). They are quite stiff NIB and need a lot of exercise to smoothen up. The Delica has the hole more exposed than the Native's therefore is more accessible. I also like the Delica's ergonomics more. Yet, the Native has a thicker, broader blade, if you look for something stronger (not that the Delica wouldn't be strong enough, my EDC is a SE Delica and it takes A LOT of abuse). ;)

On the flip side of dialex, I'd edc my Native much more than my delica.
Native is a much more robust blade for everything I'd ask of it. And the tip doesn't break. Course I like the Native in s30 steel and combo edge.

I have both. I carry a Delica SE when I'm working (in uniform) and a Native III PE when I'm in jeans. The Delica opens a bit faster, gets used for lots of rope cutting. The Native fits my hand better and is a tougher blade IMO; it gets used for practically any task that comes along.

If you're looking for super smooth opening, your best choice in FRN models would be the C41 Native in S30V, probably the slickest opening lockback made. Second choice, if you want something even slimmer and lighter, need a really great slicer, or absolutely must have VG-10, would be the Calypso Jr., the most buttery smooth of the Seki made FRN Spydies I own. I have one of the blue Native III's, which are said to be smoother openers that the black ones, and it can't compare with those two. My only FRN Delica is a blue one, in ATS-55, and it's very stiff, though in fairness I must say it has seen the least use of any of my Delicas.

I have the BFC "Blue" G-10 Native as well as the "Root Beer" shell inlaid G-10 CPM440V and a black bladed VG10 collector's serial numbered Delica. I've owned numerous Delicas over the years as well but between gifts, etc., I just have the one left.

I find the Delica easiest to "speed" open but much favor the RootBeer which is among my EDC favorites (Large regular BG-42 Sebenza, small box elder regular woodie BG-42 Sebenza, William Henry 154CM redwood spearpoint, Buck custom mastadon ivory BG-42 #532, Simonich custom Talonite Carnivore, Spydie RootBeer Native).

Never to be forgotten: James Mattis, Walt "Doc" Welch, Rob Simonich

Ergos: Definitely Native II (not a big fan of the Native III and the steel is as good as it gets either way, S30V or VG-10)
Looks: The CF Delica IS very sleek and low profile. Don't have the regular Delica, sorry.

I have had both. I EDC'd the Delica. It's a better cutter, IMHO and it felt better in my hand.

I had them both, but no longer have the Native. Just never did warm up to it. Prefer the slimmer handle and blade of the Delica, and the flat clip as oppossed to the wire clip of the Native. I do think the Native would hold up better and just generally "work" better if you were using it for hours every day, but I don't. That said, I recently got a grey Calypso Jr., and the Delica's gathering dust at home.

The native gets my vote. The Native III is a real pain to open and I've been using it for at least five months now but the ergonomics are great and the steel is good. However my old Native in GIN-1 steel is my steady EDC, I actually prefer the flatter handle and it has the smoothest action of any of my folders. Get the S30V native and you can't go wrong.
