I got this little knife for a few bucks on auction. It reminded me of an opinel but with a strange blade shape and handle. It has turned out to be an amazing slicer. The Blade thickness it almost half that of an opinel and it gets razor sharp with a few strops.

As you can see it doesn't have a manufacturer stamp, but seems to have been made for (or sold at) a restaurant in Steyr, Austria.

Another member on this forum alerted me to its cultural origins - its a Trattenbacher Taschenfeitel - more info in Humppa's thread http://www.bladeforums.com/

That is a great find! They are pretty cool for such a simple knife, thanks for sharing this one with us!

The Austrian Opinel, nothing less ! And a very sexy blade with that. Had this maker only thought of the lockring, he probably could have given Mr. Opinel a hard time. Perfect snacking knife indeed... and the handle is spot on. Thinner blade than an Opinel, cough, cough, that's weak.

Cool knife! Thanks!

BTW, the link to Humppa's thread isn't working for me....

I have one of the exact shape, but obviously of lesser quality, which a friend picked up as a "penny knife" for quite cheap for several. I keep it in a box, as it has some sentimental value. Mine is a stainless blade, but has no markings anywhere.

agreed for hard cutting tasks. but for slicing fruit and spreading peanut butter its pretty great. I keep this one around the kitchen. this little guy just calls out for type kind of use.

You've got a cool gem IMO. I dig the blade profiles, they strike me as useful, but look pretty cool. The handle are nice looking as well, unique to say the least.
