No photos here just a short story and perhaps a lifelong reminder for myself:
We tend to at time get a little bit careless when it comes to our dangerous tools, ie, guns and knives.. ND, AD, and of course the nicks, bumps, bruises we endure along the way..
Well last March I experienced something that is still with me today..
We had our last bite of winter in mid March, it snowed a little the night before so I decided to make a fire.. the wood was wet so I had to process a bit to get to the dry. I was using an old Sharp survival knife 6" blade hair shaving sharp also on the tip of the spine.
I was showing my kids how to baton with a knife, while I was doing so I was thinking (hey stupid get your gloves) but I only needed a little more kindling..
so at one point I was making pencil sized sticks, and had the brilliant idea to use my hand to help guide then knife along the way, well I ended up putting that deadly tip right into my right hand ring finger at the palm, (didn't bleed and didn't feel a thing)..
until the next day, apparently I punctured the tendon.. It has been hell since then and until last month I haven't really been much use with a knife.. For months I could barely bend my finger, and until recently able to make a fist again..
I still feel pain in the finger adn were at the end of July.. Still cant fully extend it.. A constant reminder of SAFETY FIRST, hopefully I have served as a constant reminder of safety for my Kids...... (as i said that's the wrong way to process wood)
I'm sharing this story as everyday I use my knives I think of what a simple little process and a minor cut has done to the mobility of my finger..
Be Safe::
