What tests/demonstrations would you refer them to?

and something besides the destruction tests, I know it's a touchy subject and it's been discussed to death so lets just say I'm aware of them and want to know what else there is.

I know there was some flex tests done but I can only find pictures of a dog father and no INFI.

Any corrosion comparisons? Or edge retention tests?

I'd just like something a little more concrete than my own experiences--which really don't explore the steels limits--and hearsay. I know this stuff is out there, I just cant find it.

There are quite a few pics of AK tests out there. I think Dave Brown (of Buy Brown sheaths) took quite a few pics of using an AK to cut all sorts of stuff. There were some flex shots in there as well.

Dale Seago also did some arduous cutting tests with an AK47 but I don't recall there being any pics, only a short video of him swiping through several bamboo poles at once. He mentioned cutting through copper pipe with no edge damage and finally dulling the blade trying to chop through a fiberglass shovel handle. Not destruction testing, just limit-testing, as the blade survived intact, just madly blunted.

I also remember seeing pics of a Meaner Street on this forum that a police officer used to cut the windshield out of a car (not to try and destroy the knife, but to save a trapped citizen).

I am terrible at using the search tool to find this stuff, so hopefully someone else will point you to these sources, or you can always find Dave Brown here on the forums and ask him to send you a link or some pics.

I know that's not a whole lotta help, so hopefully something better comes along soon...

That makes me want to keep my Meaner now.:) I have always wanted to see the video Busse plays at shows, or did play.... back in the straight handled days. However, on knifetests.com forum, a member did a destruction test of sorts with a skinny ash and falkniven in vg10, the guy doing the review has come under scrutiny around here:rolleyes: but the Busse prevailed...;)

Scroll down to "Large Fixed Blades 10" and Under" and under that heading you'll see the Battle Mistress (SHBM), Ergo Battle Mistress and Basic 7 reviewed by Cliff Stamp. You will find some valuable controlled testing results there as well as some interesting and entertaining anecdotal material.

I'm a recently converted INFIdel. What did it for me is the good-nature of the people who deal with Busse knives, the friendly, quality community, the helpful forum, and, oh yeah, great knife designs, a company that cares and communicates with its fans, a sense of fun in the whole knife-collecting endeavor, and really good steel. That, and a few sheathmakers who seem to have Busse molds and are very friendly and talented.

All that is worth so much more than the superiority of the knives themselves over other knives.

Does anyone have a link to good threads that detail or discuss the heat treat process ?

I'm gonna cosign this. George hit it right on the head. I also love Balisongs, and I'd venture that if the community were anything like this, I'd have as much money in Balis as I do in Busse. This place is just the clincher, though...the knives, designs, and steel are fantastic.

Can anyone find AK tests Moloko mentioned?

Greg, I checked those out, it started reasonable and the comparison of how the edge held up to hitting rocks was good, but WTF was with all the ninja stuff?

Cliff Stamps tests are good stuff for sure.

No doubt the community is outstanding, but I like to stick to the merits of the knives alone. :)

Has Busse released any detailed results of there tests, pictures? videos?

Like they say, a picture says a thousand words!

PM or e-mail the poster called Cobalt. If he has the time, he can school you a bit. In addition to being a good fellow and an all-around clever guy, he also has appropriate technical training.
