if you were going to buy a wharncliff ...

The smaller Bulldog wharncliff whittler, I think they call the model the Seductress, with real ivory scales. A real classy little slipjoint.

how about the new benchmade 425 when it comes out? i think those look real nice.

Depends on what you have in mind chucklehead. Custom, production? What type of work will it require to perform? Or are you looking for something for leisurely collecting? While I am not a huge fan of wharnie blades, I do own a few and do believe that there are applications where they are quite suitable or even neccessary. Emergency and marine environment workers come to mind. I have a Dozier made Folding Hunter with a wharnie blade. I am coveting the Personal model with a wharnie blade as well. Go to www.dozierknives.com and look at the pics of the Folding Hunter and the K- 32 Personal models. The difference that sets these apart from a majority of other wharncliffes (custom and production) is that their edges have a subtle belly! This allows for a bit more versatility when handling other jobs. Additionally, their blade tips are not quite as blunt as most. Again, more versatility.

Other wharnies I' ve owned are the Spyderco Assist II with carbide tip glass breaker. This is solely regulated to outdoor activities or when travelling and feel the need for an emergency tool in a compact package. For a "gentlemens" knife I carry a Beretta/ Busfield collaboration Electra model folder. Very slim, compact liner lock with VG-10 stainless, single thumbstud, and genuine green G- 10 circuit board panel inlays! More of a hi- tech gentelmens folder.
