i am going to try to get some work done on this tanker-a and i thought it might be fun to see the various opinions out there on just what to do with it so i set up a poll

im 98% sure i would like satin with black paper to match these
but mammoth mmm :D

I don't know where you could find Black Paper at this point but that would be cool.

.

Make it satin and Black paper and sell the scales to me. :D

No seriously if you do remove the scales can you sell them to me?

Yeah, that would be the only option. I was going to say the same thing as Tony, but you have the bases covered. Strip it and don't look back.

Use it till the finish is gone, then strip it, but I would be sad to see you change the scales. That said, if you take those scales off, send them my way. I love that color.

If you are going to put paper micarta scales on it I am sure you can purchase paper micarta blanks to use as scales. Stealing them from another would be sad for that other one. (more so on those older models. on newer ones, who cares).

I'd polish the spine, and use it.

After it got ugly, I'd go satin.

I like the slabs.

My sentiments exactly.
JJ, you should be scared, when someone's thoughts are the same as mine my wife assures me they are likely not well.:D

LOL, I've never been accused of of being too well , what did Buffet say...

'if we wern't all crazy, we'd all go insane :p

We just have good taste !

I'd have the edge thinned out a little, I'd have it satin finished and I'd have the snakeskin slabs media blasted to get that laquer off. THAT would be a sweet knife. If possible, I'd probably have it thinned out a little too. .250'' is a tad thick on a knife like that....3/16'' or less for me at least.

That the same one you had up for sale? I think since those knives are limited in number, and if you aren't turning it into a user - just keep it as is.

Black paper is very nice, but if it isn't factory/original would that cause the knife to lose it's value? Wouldn't want that! :foot::D

What I WAS going to do with my Tanker before it left was get rid of that ugly green, blast the lacquer off the grips and most importantly, get a butt grind to shrink that overly long handle down. This was for CCW, but I was already carrying a SHBA and never got around to it.

This was going to be in prep of doing the same to a Euro 4 of which I prefered the blade shape.

That Tanker isn't #14 is it?

For some reason, the green on the Tankers was the vilest green I've ever seen, and I have other green blades and the lacquer on the grips was also a first.

I would go the cheapest route first. A trip through the blast cabinet and a butt grind. Getting rid of that extra metal on a knife that size makes a world of difference. Works great on a BA III also.

hey rob
no its #31
yes i dont care for the green or the lacquer much either and for quite a while didnt care for the knife itself
but now after getting the euro-4 and comparing them i realized it was just the colors that was throwing me
i like the handle shape with the butt though so i am just going to get it stripped/satin and swap on the black paper scales
