Please.
I've been searching but I feel I haven't found THE THREAD yet.
Last night I was sitting on the couch . . . you know how it is . . . it's tooooo late at night . . . there are some bucks in the bank just beating the walls to get out . . . looking at this knife and that knife in the on line stores . . .
THEN WHAMMO !
The affliction hit with a vengeance !
Delirium set in; fever the whole deal MUST HAVE MAXAMET ! ! !
MUST HAVE 69 HRC ! ! !
How have I made it this far with NO Maxamet ? ? ?

Watched the Michael Christy vid again backing up the slider with shaky hands.

I'm getting the Grey LW FRN Native 5. (I just need something to read and or watch until it gets here).
Besides my K390 Police needs a side kick he can respect.
PS : This will be my first Native; they'er good right ? Blade's a bit thick but you've all heard that song from me.

Also would like a photo of the Native 5 open next to a Delica.

And in my wildest flights of fancy a photo of both side by side comparing the backs of the upper edge of the handle / thickness of the handles. I imagine the Native FRN is thicker and more square edged; more blocky. That's good for me if it is.

Colorado :
Thank you !
I did see posts by you in the threads I found last night.

I've been meaning to try out Maxamet as well. When I do, it'll definitely be on the Native as it has become my favorite knife. For me, it's the perfect size for EDC - everything I need and nothing that I don't. Because I'm a compulsive dummy who can't leave well enough alone, I have three so far (S90V/CF, S90V/G10, S110V/Blurple).

It cuts great too. I don't think you'll find that the blade is too thick - nice distal taper and it really thins out at the edge.

The only caveat I would mention is that I find the Native needs an aftermarket deep carry clip. The Lynch Para3 clip fits the G10 and CF versions perfectly (the offset follows the handle contour almost like it was made for the knife). The FRN takes a different clip, but MXG makes a couple options.

ScooterG :
That's Monster nice of you !
Thank you for the great photos !
Looks like the Native and I are going to get along JUST FINE.

All good to know info.
Thanks !

Man Apostle P was throwing a drag about Maxamet; that's fo sho.
Big Brown Bear . . . no problem . . . just another knife to sharpen. He was right about the Police K390; works great for me.

Maxamet's good. I chose the Manix 2 version, mainly because I like the CBBL lock.

The Native is such a great platform. The backlock on them are rock solid, even the LW ones.

Per now the Native LW really is my favourite Spyderco EDC design(ok the clip could be better but it is not that bad and has great retention).

:cool::thumbsup:

I never warmed up to my S35vn native5. For what reason I do not know. But I like my liner less cruwear native5. I like my xhp native. (I don't remember if it was an exclusive or a sprint)

I do love my manix2, pm2 and pm3 in maxamet. I should grab a native5 maybe.

How to sharpen Maxamet on the KME, no voodoo or special effects needed to get this done.
ScooterG is that you ?
Thanks in any case . . . and to all who keep me company until the big moment arrives.

Not me. This gentleman is great at sharpening/testing but the poor soul has no sense of humor that I can tell :(

Is your PM2 distorted at all ?
I've read they have had problems with distortion on the longer pointier blades.
(If so I blame it on God)

No distortion or warp on mine. I think they figured it out after the initial batch of maxamet PM2's. Mine is perfect and I haven't heard any complaints since the first batch.

I'm a Spyderco guy, but have never had a Native, or Maxamet. I would definitely love to try a Native some time, and probably the Maxamet version, but they are a little on the expensive side, for me.

I hear you . . . just consider yourself fortunate that you don't share the affliction that some of us do : the "need" to have in our pocket knives with crazy hard / wear resistant, exotic or rare tool steels.

My self I don't have to have really pretty knives, I mean $600 or $1500 or $3000 pretty. Not putting that down in the tiniest bit. I am enthusiastic that those knives exist and people are making a living from making those knives available. THAT IS VERY COOL ! Some times (often) those knives have kind of ho hum blade materials. That said the FACT is the tried and true ho hum blade materials are going to perform just fine.

However for me I want those crazy "good" blade materials and I want to encourage the people who make THAT available (((Sal))) so with the above in mind I hardly look at price if I can get me some silly exotic blade material to play around with.

I must be looking in all the wrong places; I didn't see any Paras for sale as if they stopped making them. Out of stock at the Spyderco web site, not that I would get excited enough to pay over $300 for a Para2 in Maxamet direct from Spyderco. I hope :)

Limited editions then ? Compared to the Native 5 with Maxamet which can be had easily from a number of vendors.
