I want to start making that Puukko and just cant find any 1084 in 1/8 I talked to NJ steel and ordered the 1/4 but no luck on 1/8 1084 till december, I did manage to find stock of 1080 in 1/8 , is this just as forgiving as 1084?

I am sure others will provide additional information....but the short answer is yes it is. Anything from 1070 - 1084 will be the stuff! Good luck and I would like to see photo's of your progress.

Good luck!
Brad

It's simple enough that I haven't managed to mess it up yet. ;) I even ground an edge and point a bit too far and still had no issues (veg oil quench). The edge wasn't sharp, but it sure wasn't as thick as it could be, and that point was pointy... Worked out just fine and doesn't appear to have suffered any, I use that knife daily and am finishing up the sheath for it today.

Sweet I'll order some then I'm about to start working on handle for my very second knife so I'll post pics as soon as I start puukko

Here is the start of the handle for second knife, I left two holes for 3/32 bras pins for extra strength, Ill use same black walnut for scales

yeah I just saw that, thankfully by the time I wanted to order from Schefield knife supply they where closed, I'll call admiral first thing in the morning, the more I look at the size of the brass rod i'm going to use for pins in my handle, I realize how much better it would been if I could find some fatter nickel or brass rivets, what type is easiest to work with. something that would be about 3/16 across or so?

I've got some of the 1/8 1084 I got from Kelly Cupples years ago in my car. I could meet you at Big Apple music around 4:30ish (when I typically get out of work)

Hey you'd be doing me a favor brother Ill be there, white pickup with painting business lettering on the door, meanwhile called Admiral and they have no more of 1084 and they will not be getting it any time. I ordered 120' of 1075/1080 to keep me going meanwhile. My friends love the couple of knives I made and a few want me to make them knives and sheets, pretty exciting stuff
