If I understand correctly the IKBS is ball-bearing pivot system that allows for super-smooth opening. CRKT has IKBS on the the new Ken Onion Ripple. I want get one but I was wondering whether or not you could disassemble a knife with IKBS knife. I'd hate to $80 on knife and later have it's balls fall out all over the place.

It's actually not that hard to take apart esp. if you're pretty comfortable taking apart other knives.

It's not hard at all. The grease does a pretty good job of holding the bearings in. But be careful anyways because you can knock them loose if you bump it hard enough. I used on of my wife's cookie sheets to "catch" the bearings if they dropped.

Is that sealed somehow when it's all together? Looks like it could get gunked up with dirt if it wasn't?

That is something I'll be watching out for in use. It won't be a hard-use knife so it should be OK in my normal EDC tasks. I clean and maintain all my knives at a fairly regular rate. I'm not anal about it, it's just "busy work" while watching TV or something.

UpChuck, thanks man. That's exactly what I needed to see. Looks slick. I like the intergraded blade-stop groove carved into the blade.

That internal blade stop relief sure looks like it weakens the blade in the pivot area.

I wish I had not seen that pic, I have a Galyean Pro series JYD that has the internal bladestop and IKBS and I just lost alot of confidence in the knife!

The CRKT is more of a light duty knife but I kind of figured the JYD was for hard use, but with a cutout like that I'll be sticking with my Umnumzaan and XM-18 for rugged use.
