Hello All,
I am a new person here. I went to to Ikea and bought three of their knives the chef knife is made out of Damascus steel. And the other two are stainless steel (Molybdenum/ Vanadium stainless steel 1326) am not sure if that number means anything. Thanks hopefully they are good knives.I wonder who makes the knives for Ikea. Thanks

Hello All,

Welcome. It is not damascus steel. It is regular steel etched to look like damascus steel.

I've got a paring knife from Ikea (one of the 1326 type you mentioned). I have to sharpen it pretty regular but then my wife uses it all the time. Good ergonomics.

The only problem is that it cuts in Swedish.

LOL Cuts in Swedish!! Dammit, got coke on my monitor!

Take them out of the package. Obtain food product to be cut. Cut. Question answered.

Unless they cost over $100 a piece, which I highly doubt from Ikea, I'm sure you got your Money's worth.

Just be careful not to overtighten. The pressboard breaks easy. But I bet they'll cut the hell out of Ikea Swedish meatballs!

He meant they are made in China!

There's nothing wrong with them, but there's a lot of discussion and lack of info regarding the VG-10 damascus model.
Stay clear of that one and get the lower priced regular models.

Personally I dont buy them at all, as I like older cutlery from Eskilstuna.
We get them here in flea-markets for almost nothing, but the heat-treatment is fairly good.
Mora has a decent range of kitchen models in 12c27 at hrc 58 and those are well respected.

My favorite's in the kitchen are two 8" Solingen made African trade knives, like the Okapi fixed knives.

There's also two outstanding Bark River kitchen models in 12c27.
