I'll (probably) never learn - aka, my new Southern Grind Spider Monkey

Yup, I did it again.
Yes, I bought another knife...but that's not the problem. The problem is that I bought another knife that I'm probably not going to carry because it's too small. It's a 3.25" blade - I know some people love that size; but I'm solidly in the 3.5" blade camp.
At least this will compel me to post up a couple similar sized knives in a token effort to keep the numbers down, lol.

The knife in question is a Southern Grind Spider Monkey...and it actually does have a decent chance of getting carried at least for a little while, because I got the SFO with copper scales. (I like copper).
If you have, or had, a Spider Monkey - please let me know what you liked (or didn't like) about it.

I share your preference for a larger blade and 3.5 inches to 4in is usually the sweet spot. However during the summer especially where I live smaller blades usually get carried more often because of the weight savings. It really does make a difference every little bit.

I said I bought it....it won't be here for a couple days, yet. I could post a stock photo - but that sucks as bad as not posting anything.

I've actually avoided this purchase since it was released - despite having it in my cart on at least 6 occasions before today. I went and looked today, saw that there were only 3 left...and the next thing I knew I had an email confirming my order.

I've got a few light knives...and I think that the small weight savings that might be realized due to the size reduction will be overshadowed by the copper scales. If it isn't, I just wasted my money - I'll hate it, and never carry it.

I picked up the copper about 2 months ago. I believe it to be the sharpest out of the box I've received. I like everything about it, including the action and lockup. I liked it so much after a month I ordered the carbon fiber. It is just as sharp. So now I have light and heavy. Love them both! I'm actually surprised there's not more talk about them.

Welp, I'm the opposite of you. I bought and carry the Spider Monkey BECAUSE it has 3.25" blade length. That's the perfect blade length for my taste, and dangit if you can't find many knives with that blade length. Most knives seem to be at or below 3" or all the way up to 3.5" or above. The single fact that the SM is 3.25" is literally the only reason I bought it. If it had been any other length, I would not have purchased it at all. But alas it is, and since I received it, it's been my off duty EDC. It's been almost a year if I'm not mistaken, and it doesn't look like it's going to be booted out of my pocket any time soon. I don't like carbon fiber or the monkey logo, but I've gotten used to that. The fact is the blade is exactly what I like--length, shape, thickness, and stonewash finish.

Great knife. I've had mine for almost two years. No complaints.

Really nice looking knife! Love that blade shape!
Never really took notice of this knife before. I certainly am now!
Going to check them out on Whitty's site now.
Nice enabling job you enablers.

I'm with you on the size issue for the most part, but the Spider Monkey is definitely a handsome blade and one that seems really well made. I'll also say that, while I'm a huge fan of larger folders occasionally a smaller one comes around that hits me just right. Most recently it was the Spyderco Urban in K390 which I bought just to play with the steel, but has rapidly become a favorite carry blade. Hopefully the Spider Monkey will hit you that way.

Better than buying another knife you are probably not going to carry because it's too large. I have a bunch of Bussekin I never use because there is no need for a ten-inch blade in an urban environment.

I bought one nib and then sold it...which is quite common for me. But I wanted to hold it. It's too small for my large hand, but it was well-constructed, nice S35VN blade and sharp. At a bit over three ounces, it's not as heavy as I prefer, but most folks will enjoy that aspect of the knife. That blade-length usually means a shorter closed length also, which generally means that the knife will be too short for me to hold with confidence.
All in all, I think it's an excellent folder, but would prefer the ~3.5" blade-length of a Sebenza and so forth.
