Illinois Knife Makers?

Hey all,

I am in Warrenville IL. About 45 minutes outside of Chicago. Looking for some knife makers or hobbyists I could visit with and maybe watch perform their craft. I recently upgraded my HF 1x30 to a Grizzly and am practicing. Havent sent any of my stuff (5 blades) out for heat treat yet as I am not satisfied with the results yet.

Hoping to watch and pick up some pointers from those more seasoned than I.

Anyone around willing to help?

hey man, Im in the middle of moving up to pleasant prairie Wi about an hour north of chi town. hopefully this time next month my shop will be up and running, I always welcome visitors.
 
Man I would love that. I will keep you in mind and check back with you. If you need a handing moving in or setting up your shop, I can help and spring for beer and pizza to boot :)

my buddy and I have been building (stock removal) knives for about 3 years. We are located in Benld, three miles west of exit 44 on I-55. It's about 3 hours from you, but you are welcome to visit us.

I have not made any knives yet but have built a GIB and am working on getting things together to start making some knives. I live in Wheaton and that is really dang close!

I'm a ways south of you, but feel free to come down. I'm about 10 minutes south of Champaign-Urbana.

Well I was at the Knifemakers' Guild Show at that time, is there anything else going on ?
 
Maybe we need to get some of us together some evening................. I'm in Oak Park, smack in the middle of a lot of you.

John from JK knives is in mokena, check out his forum here in the makers section. He has helped a few people make a knife.
 
Just posting this so I can subscribe, and know if the thread ever gets restarted.
 
I'm in Northbrook, came across this thread with some Google-fu. Sorry for bumping an old'ish thread, but I figured it would be better than making a new one.

I've been interested in getting into hobby knifemaking for a couple of years now, but for whatever reason I'm hesitant to take the plunge. Would any of you be willing to let a newbie shadow/visit for a day?
