I know this has been discussed and I've searched the forum and I've searched HERE I can't find anything that say to carry is illegal and nothing about length or about Balis....

I carry a BM520 and a Korth Panther (3.75 inch Bali) Everything else I carry is around the same as these knives. Always under 4 inches always folders and always clipped in right front pocket.

I'm I Legal  Or is it all up to how good a day the LEO is having?

Thanks!

http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/sta-law.htm Is an excellent resource for this topic. I am an IL resident as well, and have done some research on the

laws. The only law that should affect you is the 3" blade length restriction. Another thing to be aware of is that city laws can be even more restrictive.

There are a couple of IL LEO's in my unit. I have asked them what the length restriction is in IL and neither could give me the correct answer! My take on

this is, if you are doing something bad, they will charge you for a weapons violation. If you are not breaking any other laws, they do not really care. The

important thing is to have a good reason for carrying the knife, if they ask. Hunting, fishing, or work are good reasons, self defense is a bad reason!

They will think that you are looking for trouble, and that you intend to use your knife as a weapon, not a tool.

Well I appriciate your responce... Just for fun what did they think the length limit was?

One, who is a senior trooper, thought 6" OAL was the limit. The other had no idea, and would not guess. You should be O.K. with any folding knife, but you

may want to leave the Bali at home. They both said the important thing is that you give a good reason for carrying.

I am not even sure the 3" or less limit applies if you are not suspected of wrongfull intent.
