Iltis Axes

I have one and it's a fine axe after fixing. Most seem to come now with misaligned heads, loose heads and other quality control problems which is a pity. I was surprised to find that they come in two designs - the common Oxehead or wide blade and a narrower version.
Since they seem to be the standard for small axes in general purpose forestry in Canada - together with the heavy Hults which is used where wedges need to be set, etc. - are other people seeing the quality control problems on new Iltis axes?

That is kind of a problem. There is no where around here to handle the axes before hand, I was thinking of picking up the Iltis felling axe next spring. I wonder if I can get them Lee Valley to do a simple inspection on it before they send it out.

Hi Cliff:
I'll get the address of the exploration products company that carries the narrow bladed versions and post that here too. (1" narrwer blade).
Iltis are good thin bladed axes but you have a very good chance of getting a poor one without selection.
Whether an Iltis is a good deal at $60-70 CAN, for the light cruiser axe or the regular 2 1/4 lb for $80.00 CAN when you can get a Gransfors SFA for $95 CAN is debateable.
