My step daughter is 23 years old. I raised her (with the wife ) since she was about 6 years old.

We had a lot of problems with her growing up, and didn't think she would ever change.
She met her boyfriend ( they are going to get married) a little over a year ago. When the wife told me she was pregnant I thought, this is not good...

Her boyfriend is going to be deployed again over to the sandbox and won't be back home for 13 months. He will then have 4 weeks off, and be redeployed to Africa for a security detail, for 12 months...

So, the dad being gone, and not knowing if she has changed, I was having a hard time getting enthused about the situation.

Wednesday she called my wife and said the were going to induce labor at 0530 Thursday. So I got my usual 2 hours sleep and at 0500 we loaded up in the pickup and headed for a small town I grew up in about 130 miles away.
It was a strange feeling because she was in the same hospital that I was born 49 years ago, and my son Travis was born there 14 years ago, and my mother was born there about 70 years ago...

Anyway, at 1730 hours, she finally had the baby. When he came out, the umbillical cord was wrapped around his neck three times, and he looked like he was dead. The doctor and nurses resusitated him, and al was well.
He was small. Just 5 pounds 9 ounces, but is very healthy.
They named him Leland Michael. The Michael was choosen after me.

Not sure where the wife put the pics, so can't put any on right now. O.K, enough ramblin, its been a long week and its time to go to bed

Congratulations, Gramps!!

Congratulations Grampa.

Thanks all. I knew I should have waited until this morning to write the thread. I didn't intend to write a small novel lol

Mom and baby are home, and doing well. Now that all the other stuff has passed, its perrty cool. It reminds me of when Trav was born. Once he came out, everything changed, and definitely for the better. It reminds a person what is really important in life.

Congratulations! Good times coming for parents and Leland Michael!

By the time I was born, my dad had just shipped off to win WW II. Everything worked out OK in a couple more years. :)

This is AWESOME! You will be able to stand in as the male in Leland's life until his daddy is home to stay and take over. The father sounds like he is a responsible young man, and will do right by your step-daughter and his son.

Thats good to hear Esav. I know there are a lot of service members , who aren't able to see their new borns for quite some time. Its gotta be really hard on them.

Thats the plan Judy. I know the father will do the right thing, because I took him outside and had a little talk with him, when they came over last month for a bbq.
He's a good person, just young and dealin with some PTSD.
