I'm a little worried about the LB7s...

I'm glad I sold a LB7 on Friday night. Nice bunch of knives you have for sale. Maybe I'll buy another LB7 next week! Maybe 2!

I will not be selling my LB7s on eBay. I sold almost all of them to one collector (at a small loss) in order to get this over quickly. Soon I will be done with this agonizing process! I didn't think giving up my collection would be this hard, but it stinks!

I have two more rounds of auctions to deal with and then I never have to sell one of my knives again. I am holding on to a handful of Schrade knives - trying to limit it to the absolute necessities (one of each of my favorites.) I am trying to keep it under ten knives total... It's hard because I really want to keep them all, but deep down I know that I can't use multiple copies of the same knife.

Collecting can get out of hand! It's going to be hard to control the impulse to buy more... But, now that I know what selling them is like, I have a little different perspective on collecting.

Again, I apologize for posting a link to my eBay auctions. I didn't know that I was breaking the rules - but I certainly know it now and will not do it again.

I am only bothered by the idea that someone should not have more than 10 knives!

If I add up the value of all of my knives, it sounds shocking. But that's only because I spend my money on things that last. I know plenty of people who spend just as much money on drinking, smoking, movie theaters, etc. They consume those things and don't have them sitting around begging to have their values totaled, but they still spent the money.

Let's go over the bare minimum. Features can be "combined" unless noted otherwise...

  2. Large slipjoint with multiple blades
  3. Large slipjoint with a single blade, or at least a dual-blade jack or barlow
  4. Large lockback with some kind of fancy handle
  5. Large lockback with basic materials for using and abusing
  6. Lightweight one-handed medium size with a pocket clip
  7. Small locking folder with fancy steel and steel handle
  8. Small locking folder with a lightweight handle
  9. Large military/tactical with a fat blade and G10 handle
  10. Fixed-blade neck knife
  11. Fixed blade skinning knife of medium size
  12. Large fixed blade, hunter or bowie
  13. At least one Carbon steel knife of any kind, preferably one of each
  14. At least one with a titanium handle
  15. At least one knife with a non-traditional locking mechanism (not a liner lock or lockback)
  16. Swiss Army knife (not to be combined with previously-mentioned slipjoints)
  17. At least one knife that costs more than $100
  18. At least one that costs less than $10 so you can let people use it
  19. Any full flat-ground blade that is not a slipjoint
  20. At least one auto-opening or assisted-opening, even though you don't want it
  21. A production knife designed by a custom maker
  22. Anything more than 50 years old
  23. Anything made in Germany
  24. At least one you bought used and had to repair in some way, such as grinding a chip out of the blade
  25. An Opinel

    Oh, and of course,

  26. A second one of each of the above, so you have one to "use" and one to "collect"

It looks like you will have to keep about 50 of them.
