As the title states, I'm a newbie to sharpening and I bought a basic Work Sharp Precision Adjust. I also bought a digital angle finder, pressure sensitive lapping film and a clamp stabilizer block.

I have a couple EDC knives one being a Benchmade Griptilian with an S30V blade and J.A. Henckles kitchen knives I would like to sharpen to the best edge I can get.

Would anyone have any experience or advice they would care to share? I'm an absolute beginner.

Hopefully members here will be able to give you some advice on this particular sharpener, i have no experience with them. But generally, look up Youtube, there are many sharpening videos there about these sharpeners, and the Work Sharp website has some videos as well, and absorb as much information as you can. A small notepad would be handy to jot down handy notes that you can refer back to. Buy a few cheap knives to practice on till you get used to the system, don't just start sharpening on your good knives. With practice you will get better and better as you learn. And for a beginner have realistic expectations, all you initially need is a sharp working edge, leave all the polished edge stuff to others, otherwise it will do you head in. Don't overthink it and keep it simple. But don't be afraid to ask questions here, most members are very helpful. Good luck, take your time and you will be fine.

Good advice from the above post. That unit isn’t the best or the fastest, but it is pretty decent for the money. It takes a little more effort than some of the better models out there. Don’t exert too much pressure with your hand as it works the blade, as that will partially deflect the blade holder. Let the diamond stones do the work.
Good luck!
