We took in this stray dog a few weeks ago. When we found it, it had red mange and looked pretty pathetic. So we figured that we would get her healthy, and then find her a home. This dog has turned into a total nightmare. She's a total menace. Anyhow, there's the background to my story.

Earlier this afternoon, I put the menace out in the backyard because she was attacking the cat and bugging the hell out of me. Later on I was sitting in the office when my three sheps started barking. Freyja (my girl shep) came into the room and started crying like something was terribly wrong. I've never seen her do anything like that before, so I got up to see what was upsetting her. I looked through the window where they were barking, and there was the menace running around loose across the street. Apparently, she got out of the fence. At first I thought, maybe I should leave her out there and see if someone else will take her. Then I looked again and saw that she had feathers in her mouth. It turned out that she was attacking this chicken that seems to have established a nest in the empty lot next door. Yes, a chicken! I haven't had too many encounters with chickens (except for on my dinner plate), but I've become quite enchanted with these because it is a momma chick and her family of six baby chicks. :) And there I see out the window that menace is attacking the momma bird. I immediately got really angry. I ran outside and chased the menace down who happened to be snapping at the hind-end of the chicken. I grabbed her, feathers in mouth and all, and started beating the hell out of her. I dragged her in the house and yelled at her to get in the cage. She just sat there looking at me. I kept yelling get in the cage. She just sat there. So I dragged her sorry ass to the back of the house and threw her into the cage. She yelped and cried from the minute I put her in the cage.

An hour later, I'm talking on the phone to my mother when I look outside the window and see the menace on our back deck. How did she get out? I didn't let her out of the cage. Then it all hit me...

That wasn't our menace at all. It was some "other" dog from the area. It looked exactly like our menace except for this small white patch under its chest. For all I know they probably came from the same litter. I didn't look for the white patch when I was beating the hell out of her. :D After crying from laughter for ten minutes straight, I went and released that poor strange dog into the wild. Ya know, it's amazing how fast that dog took off out of here.

I wonder if it's ever gonna attack those chickens again... :D

Bwhahahahaha.... "jsmatos... Neighborhood dog correcter and defender of chickens" :D

Too funny. Hopefully you'll be able to find a home for that stray.

Edit: I know you aren't cruel to animals and would've done the same ;)

I never knew that I could have such an auspicious title. :o If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone. Don't lose hope. :D

KAAK,
No, I'm not abusive to animals. I was hitting her on the rump. I was really upset about the chicken though. Her little hind-end was all messed up. :(

Edited it. More of a correction to the dog than a beating. I wouldn't have allowed to dog to torment the chicked either. I think it's cool that you helped out the mother hen. Is there a rooster around there as well? Or do you think it may have escaped from someone's home?

There's a big, beautiful rooster. Isn't that COOOOOL! :D Of course, where was he when the dog was attacking? :grumpy: Sometimes, it just takes a psychotic woman to get the job done. :o

When we come home sometimes we notice that the pine needles and mulch in our flower beds are all spread out. We think that the chickens come onto our property during the day and use their little feet to move everything around and look for worms. I think it's cute. :)

Can you imagine what that poor dog went through? No wonder it wouldn't get in the cage. It didn't know what the hell I was talking about. :D

I hope there aren't any neighbor kids that look a little like yours...

Now that was funny. :D As long as they stay away from the chickens. STAY AWAY FROM THE CHICKENS. :insert psychotic smiley here: STAY AWAY FROM THE CHICKENS. ;)

It's really pretty crazy. Both dogs are black with black eyes and a boxer-type head. They are both approximately the same weight and height. They both have red collars around their neck. And most importantly, they both have the same blank, sorry look on their face. :D

I'm reading a book about knights and how the accolade didn't make you a knight; it was a formal recognition that you were a knight. The defense of a helpless chicken that didn't even belong to you seems to me a knightly deed.

Thank you. :o I'm a real wimp when it comes to animals. I can't stand to see any creature suffer. I get really whacko, especially if another animal is attacking it. :D Yes, I know that it's just the circle of life and all, but it's not gonna happen while I'm standing there. A few weeks back our cat was attacking a little froggy. I got really upset and chased the cat down until I caught him and threw him in the house. My mother was visiting, and she looked at me with that "my daughters a flake" look and asked me what I thought would happen when he got back out. So what, I'm supposed to just stand there and watch it get tortured.

It does make me wonder about all of those "real" psychos out there who intentionally hurt people and animals. How is it that they can intentionally bring harm to people/animals, but I can't stand one second of watching a cat messing around with a frog. I just don't understand it...
