We took in this stray dog a few weeks ago. When we found it, it had red mange and looked pretty pathetic. So we figured that we would get her healthy, and then find her a home. This dog has turned into a total nightmare. She's a total menace. Anyhow, there's the background to my story.
Earlier this afternoon, I put the menace out in the backyard because she was attacking the cat and bugging the hell out of me. Later on I was sitting in the office when my three sheps started barking. Freyja (my girl shep) came into the room and started crying like something was terribly wrong. I've never seen her do anything like that before, so I got up to see what was upsetting her. I looked through the window where they were barking, and there was the menace running around loose across the street. Apparently, she got out of the fence. At first I thought, maybe I should leave her out there and see if someone else will take her. Then I looked again and saw that she had feathers in her mouth. It turned out that she was attacking this chicken that seems to have established a nest in the empty lot next door. Yes, a chicken! I haven't had too many encounters with chickens (except for on my dinner plate), but I've become quite enchanted with these because it is a momma chick and her family of six baby chicks.
And there I see out the window that menace is attacking the momma bird. I immediately got really angry. I ran outside and chased the menace down who happened to be snapping at the hind-end of the chicken. I grabbed her, feathers in mouth and all, and started beating the hell out of her. I dragged her in the house and yelled at her to get in the cage. She just sat there looking at me. I kept yelling get in the cage. She just sat there. So I dragged her sorry ass to the back of the house and threw her into the cage. She yelped and cried from the minute I put her in the cage.
An hour later, I'm talking on the phone to my mother when I look outside the window and see the menace on our back deck.
How did she get out? I didn't let her out of the cage. Then it all hit me...
That wasn't our menace at all. It was some "other" dog from the area. It looked exactly like our menace except for this small white patch under its chest. For all I know they probably came from the same litter. I didn't look for the white patch when I was beating the hell out of her.
After crying from laughter for ten minutes straight, I went and released that poor strange dog into the wild. Ya know, it's amazing how fast that dog took off out of here.
I wonder if it's ever gonna attack those chickens again...
