I'm a traditional knife guy

My first was a PM2, the second was a Delica 4 and the dragonfly seems to be the one missing ;)

Relax. It's not really bad til you have 3 Military, 2 PM2, 3 Stretch, 3 Police......

Been Wanting To Try One Of These For a Longtime, I've Had All The Other Spyderco Slipjoints

I Highly Recommend This Knife If You Enjoy Slipjoints & Like One Handed Opening & Closing

It's a Little Pricey But It's Super Cool :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

:D

Welcome, Mora. I went in the opposite direction - started with Spydercos and have recently branched out into the traditional world. Now I carry one (or more :o) of each. Best of both worlds.

Is your H1 Dragonfly serrated? If not, you need that one, too. :p

For Spydercos that have traditional-esque flair, I like Air and Roadie.

That said, I don't usually look for overlap. I want my Spydercos to be modern folders with locks and clips and one handed opening and my traditionals to be slip joints with natural scale materials, etc.

Very nice choices. So, how are you liking the change, and those two knives?

I bought the h1 serrated first. I wanted a folding companion to my fixed blade dive knife that could also cross over to land-use.

The day I got the h1, I took the clip off and put it right in my pocket. After about 4 hours, I liked the in pocket feel and the in hand ergonomics of the blade so much I went and ordered the vg10.

I think most traditional users like what we perceive as "classy/beautiful" scales, such as stag, bone, ivory etc. Yet, another part of the traditional thinking is being somewhat minimalist, and no frills. FRN is not classy or beautiful in any way to me, but the Dragonfly with FRN fully fits into the minimalist, no fuss, no frills, just works mentality.

I've only had the h1 for a few days and the vg10 for two. The h1 is reserved for ocean excursions, while the vg10 is currently getting edc time. It's got the advantage of being so lightweight, only my 58mm victorinox asks are equivalent. Although the blade length is shorter than most of my traditional knives, it doesn't need to be big, just sharp.

And after reading the spyderco sub forum for a week, this happens ...

It will just get worse from here buddy. The bite has a strange way of making money disappear and end up as part of a knife dealers profit margin.

You mean, "typical" knife guy.
You'll need a Lil Temp3, for those tough days.

I was a Traditional knife guy for years... soon I just grew tired of these traditional folders not holding up to what I need in a daily work knife.
I grew tired of the lack of edge retention, bladeplay, CONSTANT sharpening throughout the day. My love for "Old-timer" type knives and the "old ways" isn't practical if I have to struggle with a daily work knife.
I discovered Spyderco... Manix 2 was my first. It's EVERYTHING I need in a solid work knife... edge holds all day, sometimes a few days.
Soon followed a Paramilitary, then Delica 4... today I ordered a Stretch 2.
I love not having to fuss with these. I love the solidness, fit, finish and above all it does what a knife is supposed to do.
Now, all I carry are Spydercos.

The dragonfly is the best all around EDC knife in the world. I own five and want more. They do everything perfectly, never found a cutting task that I "really needed something bigger" for. My fav is the h1 salt serrated. Great choice!
