I'm afraid for my wallet...

I just noticed that GEC is going to be at my local knive show in two weeks...The Easton Knife show. I'm very afraid for my wallet. While I've been able to fight off ordering a bunch on-line, I doubt I'll be so strong when I'm looking at a sea of slip joints.

For those who have been at a show with them, how have you managed to hold off the madness?

This is not what you are asking, but has been my approach to hold off the madness. It is similar to the old Ann Landers (or Dear Abby, don't recall which) advice about the only effective birth control pill being the one held tightly between the knees: I don't go to knife shows!

I have found that setting a cash limit for events like knife and gun shows is best. I leave my cc in the car and only bring the cash inside I am willing to spend. I have never had to go outside and grab my card and its rare for me to actually spend all my cash. Its worked so far for me and still allows me the hands on that I love so much about the shows.

I'm just giddy about it. I've held exactly one GEC--the one that rides in my pocket every day. There are so many that I'm tempted by but it's hard to pull the trigger based purely on internet photos and reviews. To be able to fondle, er... I mean handle, a variety of GEC knives will be wonderful.

I'm expecting to leave with one or two slipjoints and leave the remainder of my budget for a fixed blade or two, but I know there's a chance that the lure of new pocket pals will prove too strong.

Honestly, I don't go to knife shows because my interest in knives beyond just having a cutting tool in my pocket is relatively recent. I knew if I went to a show this year the temptation would be too great.

I do however, follow the method Jeff mentioned above when I go to gun shows. Carry in my allotted cash or trade, and when that is gone, no more buying.

It's like going to the track. Only take what you can afford to lose . . . at least with a knife show, you come away with something!

Nice posts and methods for a fresh man in traditional blades. Sometimes I even fight with myself not open the official site of GEC!

LOL, that's why I haven't been back to Zippo/Case in a long while! :D

Last visit was one of my more expensive vacations...

You're looking at it all wrong! I know Chris personally, she will be representing Great Eastern at this Show. She is a very nice lady and friendly. Go see the knives and visit with Chris. Look em over, think about it,take your time, enjoy the experience. This is FUN! This shouldn't be some angst filled experience. She'll be there all weekend. Relax! Enjoy! No Worries!

Be it gun show or gun & knife show I only take in enough cash that I can afford to spend guilt free. I will say that my first true knife show (knives only) this March was almost sensory overload, especially so since there were four well stocked GEC vendors there to include Ken Daniels. It was awful nice to be able to lay hands on & closely examine so many GECs rather than the internet shopping I'd done until then.

Hope you enjoy the show.

Rob, I am so pleased to see you posting. Hope all is well.--frank

I always tend to spend most of the money I brought for a knife show with Ryan Daniels. At the Chesapeake show and the Mason Dixon show, hope he sets up at the Frederick show next month.

Thanks, Cyo-- I didn't realize Great Eastern was coming so close-- or "close" relative to driving to Titusville.

Given all the new releases, I might just need to make a Saturday mosey. I'd love to compare the new Mavericks, Outlaws, etc. in-hand, and see the covers in person.

Hmmmm.
