Well my friends, I'm just bursting at the seams this morning. I have a new nephew to go visit in the hospital.
Technically I'm not his uncle, but close enough
I'm an only child, so I had the luxury in life to decide who my "siblings" would be. About 20 years ago, I got tangled up in a pair of actual factual brothers, and we have been inseparable ever since.
A little over 3 years ago, the elder brother from another mother informed me that his wife had given birth to a beautiful little girl who would become my Goddaughter. My wife and I answered that honor about 18 months later with the birth of our daughter to whom they became the Godparents. Yesterday, my "little brother" texted me back and forth through out the day giving the status updates on his own forthcoming bundle of joy, and at around 8:45 last night he sent me the pic of the little guy getting cleaned up. Logan James came into the world a couple weeks early but at a healthy near 7lbs
He and his fiance are doing just fine. Little Logan is spending a bit of time in the NICU to make sure everything is OK since he was a little early. All signs point to good things.
It's amazing how life ebbs and flows and marches on. A couple of weeks ago my grandfather passed away after a brief illness. Today, a young man and his fiance are cradling a brand new soul in their arms. Here I am, 10 days from my 31st birthday, a working stiff, a husband, and a dad myself. I can't believe that my Goddaughter is THREE already (and I am sensing a buzz that she may be soon expecting a sibling herself). That blows my mind.
What further astounds me (and quite frankly makes me feel OLD) is that my 27 year old little brother from another mother is now a dad himself. Here's a guy I watched grow up. He was a tag along when his brother and I were out getting into mischief. He would later get a summer job working for me which he would keep for the next 6 years. I watched him grow, graduate high school, graduate college, fall in love, land a better job than I have, and finally become a dad. Honestly, I can't think of a title or milemarker in life greater than that. I've been known as a lot of things in my life, but Evey's Dad is the one I'm most proud of. That's a moniker I don't mind walking with the rest of my days. My little brother is going to get to learn the joy of becoming that guy in very short order.
He's going to be a great dad, and I couldn't be more proud of him
Thanks for letting me do a little happy rambling this morning
