Hello everyone. Its been a while since I've been here. Months in fact. My last post here was in August.

In July my son left home for the Navy. He's currently a Hospital Corpsman in the making. Summer got into full swing and I spent quite a bit of time fishing and trying to survive the daily grind. Because of the job, the house, the economy and other things I developed a severe case of lack-of-interest in all things web based. Had to take a hiatus.

Now that winter is here and the days are short I hope to be back on-line here more often.

Are the chats still happening?

I haven't picked up anything new for myself but I got my boy a new Leatherman Wave and a Fenix LD20 for Christmas. Seems buying knives and survival goodies for myself has got a little less important since he went off to serve his country.

Stepping back from the stress and stuff, I think I missed you guys :p

Chris

Glad to see you back around.

Tell your son we said thank you for his service.

I understand what you mean, I have sent more than a couple of my knives and tools over seas with the sons of friends. I hope the need for that ends soon...not missing the tools, just the people they are with.

.

Thanks a bunch guys. I really need to get out and get back to being a contributing member here. believe it or not, your posts really helped me get outdoors and I've learned a lot from everyone here.

Thanks again.

chats are still on on tuesday and sunday- personally I miss fridays

Outstanding on the Navy choice. I've been feeling a bit lonely at times amongst all these ex jarheads!

Thanks Koyote. Because he went Corpsman he'll be sent to Lejune in the spring to do FMF with the Marines. After that he can be assigned to a Marine battalion and sent out with them as their medic. He might end up seeing some sand after all.

I'm okay with it. As hard headed as Marines can be, they protect their Corpsman to the bitter end (probably because he's the one with the Morphine ;) ).

Yeah. I'm proud of the boy.

I still, for the life of me, cannot get over the new uniform choices. way too bizarre.

I have had HMs in my family, in fact I grew up on Pendleton. Nothing wrong with going FMF- I wasn't a corpsman, but I played with some marines now and then doing other stuff. Just not enough swabbies in WSS :D

Great to see you back, Rupe. Hope to see you around more/chat on Sun/Tues chats.

Right there with you brother, my son joined the Air Force and left in March, he is doing great, pop not so much. Wish I could say it gets better but it hasn't really for me yet. Joe deploys to Afghanistan in May, I have deployed multiple times to SWA but it doesn't make it any easier thinking about my boy going. Chris
