Hello again all, it's nice to be back. Finally got my net up and running at work so I've got a lot of stuff rattleing my brain. I recently purchased a CRKT Polkowski/Kasper comanion and man o' man what a b e a UTIFUL blade. There's just one hitch; The finish is black epoxy and I've not seen hide nor hair of a black epoxy coat finish on the CRKT website. My first reaction is that it is an older model because the handle still has the CRKT imprint but still curious as to the authenticity. And in case you were wondering yes it was an ebay seller...GASP  I know.

Another question, I have a very hard time putting a razor edge on my M1602z. Is that concurrent with CRKT's AUS 6M or am I neglecting some trade secret? I can sharpen the hell out of any knife I own but the edge I want on my folder just isn't taking. Help would be greatly appreciated on either or both topics.

Last but not least, what on God's green Earth is polyoxymethelene handle material? Is it CRKT's answer to Kraton or what? Thanks in advance.

check the :to protect and serve catalog.
I dunno what Melancholy Mutt did, but his CRKT M16Z was RAZOR sharp

I have a similar problem with many of their AUS6m pieces. On my bladelock, I had to change the edge angle noticeably. But it still won't hold a keen edge too long.
I have seen some epoxy powder coats on older models.

My knives hold an edge a little longer than normal because I slice (draw through)instead of push a blade through whatever it is I'm cutting. The CRKT Aus-6 blade didn't need to be babied though... The M-16Z edge was not altered since I took it out of the box and was used in hacking off the branches from a 6 foot spruce christmas tree a few days earlier. The only thing I did with it afterwards was clean the sap off with WD-40 and then saop and water.

Write Rod over at CRKT an Email and ask him personally about it. He is pretty good at getting back to customers. info@crkt.com

Polyoxymethylene is a thermoplastic better known as POM.

It's cheap, stable, and quite wear resistant. Mainly cheap.

It is hard, not soft like Kraton. Think more in terms of a hard black plastic like what you would see on a kitchen knife or steak knife.

Nothing special but it should be perfectly serviceable as a knife handle, if perhaps a bit slick when wet.

I have one of those, too. The black finish is for their "professional" version, from their "For Those Who Serve" catalog.

I agree, the knife is sweet, but I find it a bit too lheavy in the handle. One of these days I'm gonna take the scales off and drill some 1/2" holes in the tang to lighten it up, and get the balance point further forward. (With my luck, the tang is fully hardened, and I'll spend more on bits than I spent on the knife!)
