Hello to all you forumites! I am home and fighting jet lag and Kathmandu flue but anxious to share my trip to Nepal and the Kamis.
I had a wonderful welcome when I arrived at the shops.
They were all happy to get their gifts.

I met the new Kamis and they are doing well with their
work for your collections.

I was delighted to see young Kumar and scabbard maker,
Pralad and other old kamis back in our old shop. They have been unable to get
steady work after they left our shop and want to stay and
work for HI.

I also got a call from Old Sher, the Tiger from Dharan, and
he wants to come back to work for HI. I told him that he is
more than welcome to join our old and new Kamis.

I had a great visit with Bura and his family, but will talk about
that in another post on the forum. Over time, I will share the
photos I took before I came home.

I'm happy to be home and back in touch with my forumites.
I missed you!

Welcome home, Yangdu:)

It's great to put a face with Tirtha. He makes a GREAT blade. ANNNND, Kumar is back! I better start saving my pennies:D Those two know how to make a knife that feels like a custom fit to my hand.

im glad you had a good time
its also cool to see the faces of the wonderful kami's
hope you feel better soon

Hi, Yangdu:

This is my first posting to the forum.

Thank you for showing us photos of the kamis. I'm especially glad to see Rajkumar in the photos, since he made the beautiful UF khukuri that I received two weeks ago, from one of Karda's DOTDs. It is a work of art as well as craftsmanship and I'm happy to see a picture of the man who made it. If you have a chance to convey my compliments to him, please do so.

Regards,

Dave

Yangdu,

Welcome home and I hope you feel better soon! Look forward to seeing more pictures. As Jake said, it is nice to be able to see pictures of your favorite kami.

"I'm leaving this place, do you want to come?"
Why, yes, I do! Where are we going?

Welcome back, Auntie Yangdu! We miss you too. We also miss Kumar and Sher the Tiger. The whole team looks great in the photos and Kumar looks a bit different from the earlier photos that Uncle Bill posted on the website of him when he was younger. We look forward to seeing the distinguished works of Kumar 2.0 and Sher the Tiger 2.0.

By the way, just curious, are the kamis still able to find ample stock of good quality leaf springs that they need for their raw ingredients? I had heard about a shortage in supply of recycled leaf springs in India and I would imagine good quality stock from German trucks and other European trucks are harder to come by than before. Anyhow, just interested in hearing about the situation in Nepal and the challenges the kamis face on a daily basis that we here in America are fortunate enough not to need to think about.

Best Regards,

Welcome back, Yangdu!

It's good to see such beautiful, smiling people, and knowing what fine work they do.

Glad to see that Old Sher may be coming back. All my favorite HI pieces were made by him. The way he makes those large handles and beefy blades just felt right. Dil came close though.

Sounds like the premo of my old dream is true. With that Kumar's bringing his brother back in town.
Kumar please don't leave AGAIN. Your famed Kumar Kobra will be a hot seller!

I hope you get well Auntie!
Rajkumar got a little fat eh ?He's very happy with his new shirt from a forumite here!

Welcome back Auntie, your Online Family missed you !!....So many smiling faces in your pics , Kamis and Sarkis who left, now realising what a great place HI is to work
for, deciding to return. That must be very gratifying. It says a lot about the excellent working environment over there. We can look forward to bigger and better "things".
