Hello my friends in Nuclear Toughness...

I'm happy to report that I had an enjoyable and productive visit at the Busse Shop in Wauseon, Ohio.

Fortunately, we timed my visit to occur between military orders, so after signing a confidential disclosure, I was able to gain access to an extremely large, well organized and impressive shop, as well as have time to spend with the man himself, Jerry Busse.

I have a few exciting things to report as a result of my visit...I can't reveal all that I now know unfortunately, but what I can reveal will be informative enough to get some appetites wet.

1) The New Ergo Handles...AWESOME!!!! I handled many of the prototypes (in plastic, micarta, and finally steel blanks) and saw the evolution to the final handle design, which is nothing short of brilliant.

All of the Busse Combat staff are really excited about it and gearing up for what will probably be one of the most anticipated production runs in the history of straight knives in this price category.

2) Production Schedule News (ALL BUSSE CUSTOMERS SHOULD READ THIS)....when visiting the shop, I became intimately familiar with the world-wide demand for Busse Combat Knives...it is TRULY STAGGERING, and quite impressive that Jerry and the staff are even able to get out the door what they get out...the new ERGO handles should be shipping in approximately six weeks or less...this includes the following models:

Battle Mistress E
Steel Heart E
Badger Attack E (which will be a limited run to fill existing BA orders, then discontinued...the model is being replaced by its two 3.5" and 6" counterparts...both will have the E-style handle, though on the 3.5", the handle will not be at a dropped angle, but straight)

The 3.5" and 6" knives and their new names will be premiered at the Blade Show.

I know original reports indicated April, however, the new report and evidence (WHICH I SAW FIRST HAND) supports high confidence for this schedule, so don't fret...Jerry and the staff are highly dedicated to their work.

3) The FOLDER!!! Man, if I could tell you all that I know about this thing...here's what I can though...it is going to revolutionize every current notion you have about lock strength and performance in a folding knife...I have never seen anything like it...and you're gonna LOVE it and carry it EVERYWHERE...I know I will and I prefer straight knives over folders any day...but this one changes everything. The design, materials, and execution on this knife are beyond comprehension and you WILL NOT have to take a second mortgage on your home to get it...it will outperform every other folder you think is tough, sharp, or strong...hands down.

4) I have returned with knives to ship (no "E" handled models...see above for details) I will also be receiving more knives by the end of this week. I will be contacting those folks whose knives I now have in stock and am ready to ship...watch for e-mails and phone calls tomorrow. I also have DW and Standard Mean Streets w/kydex for those interested...pricing for these models is now identical, $217 + shipping.

5) Most importantly Jerry, his lovely wife Jennifer, Dave and Heather Roberson, and the entire staff at Busse Combat...these are the warmest and friendliest people in the knife business. They are also the most hardworking (doing round the clock production and administrative work at the shop). I am proud to have them as business associates and friends. My wife Amy (who some of you know from the NY Custom Knife Show) had a wonderful time visiting with the Busse Crew.

Many of you have sent me e-mail and phone mail while I was away...please give me a day or two to catch up. My thanks to all!!!

Hi Andy

Nice touch ...... but be careful with the man's beautiful wife ..... ;-)

Aubrey

Andy, welcome back.

Any word on the kydex sheaths and mutant blades lying around?

The world is watching and we are waiting.

Hi Andy

Welcome back, and thanks for the Busse Shop news. I'm looking forward to the Badger Attack-E. You make it sound so good, this wait will be harder than I thought.
Folder sounds nice too.

Hope all continues to go well for you and yours.

Greg

Aubrey...understood. Jerry could thump my pumpkin even with his bad hand, so believe me, I'm careful, I'm careful.

Smoke...sorry for not mentioning that in my original post...Jerry and the gang are gearing up to provide a kydex option to all of the Basics...right now, kydex continues to ship with all knives from the Combat line...I hope to have pics up of the new optional sheaths within a week or so. They DO plan to remedy the sheath problem soon.

Greg...thanks for your kind comments. Believe me, when you get your Badger, you'll be glad you waited..you will also be getting a limited run knife, so folks who are holding off might want to reconsider before the 4.5" blade size from Busse Combat is no more.

How can we have an idea of dimension and shape of Busse FOLDERS? And when they will hit the market?

I don't want anything that could unveil them to some dishonest manufacturers, but my Birthday is nearing (end of June) and I would be glad to present myself a Nuclear Tough Busse Folder.

And just because a friend of mine is buying a Battle Mistress, we could make a single envelope, saving some money of shipping ;-)

I'm psyched, my BM is coming, my BM is coming!

I want to be one of the first in line for the folder

Andy--
Are you still planning to post pictures of the Badger Attack E, as you indicated you would two weeks ago?
Thanks--Will York

I was counting on capturing them at my visit to the Busse Shop Will, but unfortunatley, the prototype is not a "finished" knife for pics yet, so I was not allowed to capture an image.

It's easy to visualize though...just imagine the Steel Heart E with 3" less blade length...handle size and drop remains the same. This will also be the case with the 3.5" version, but the handle on the 3.5 incher will be straight to the blade rather than dropped.

I handled the steel blank at the shop and it was WAY COOL.

Welcome back Andy. Now may be a good time to ask you (assuming you may know) if the straight AND the E model are going to be offered on the Battle Mistress? If only the E model will be offered and the straight model discontinued, how far back (months) are orders going to be filled with the new design?

Also, I got the DW Mean Street for my B-day from my girlfriend...she would like to thank you for the great service. Now if I could only check out those bows

Andy--
So the Badger Attack E will have the same blade width and shape as the Steel Heart, just less length (as if 3" were removed from middle of a SH)? Is this a departure from the previous model--I haven't seen a Badger Attack and SH (or BM) side-by-side, but the blade width in the BA photo on Busse's catalogue page doesn't seem as wide to me as the SH or BM.
Thanks--Will

Strabs...I'm working on the artwork for the bows. Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you like your gift from your charming girlfriend.

Will...you are correct. Let me qualify this for everyone's benefit. The profiles on the blades of the BM-E and SH-E have been slightly narrowed, so there is uniformity between almost all of the models...that's why I can say "imagine a SH-E 3 just inches shorter."

The profiles on the current BM and SH are definitely wider than the current BA...causing your observation about a design departure to be correct.

Now I really can't wait for my Badger Attack E!!!!!!

Andy, would it be possible to put a photograph of the entire combat line (or as many as possible) together including "regular" and "E" versions for comparison on your web site? If nothing else it would at least give us something to drool over!

Thanks,

Good to hear from you on this thread Doc...I thought about you over the weekend because I REALLY wanted to come home with your knife and get it to you as the first Badger Attack E owner. (Folks...Dr. V has been a deposit customer for this model from 2/28 and is the first in line) At least I returned with a hard time table...

Your picture idea is excellent. I will try to get something together the way you suggest.

...looks like kydex right now. Jerry is also looking at cordura with kydex liners as the standard sheath for the bigger knives.

The sheath situation just seems to be in flux. I would expect kydex with the Badger though.
