Hey Gents, I just wanted to check in and say it's good to be back from my latest deployment. I managed to check out the forums all of about twice while I was away, so what did I miss? I see that many of you are sending knives to Spec Ops soldiers. Guess I can't get one if I'm sitting on my butt back here huh? Damn. Well I think it's a nice gesture nonetheless.
I'm hoping to get back into the workshop after a little bit of leave, and hopefully I'll make something decent enough to post on here.

Welcome back. Glad to see your safe and sound back home. Sure wish the rest of our guys and gals over there could be safe. Our prayers are with them.
Scott

What sort of knife you thinking about making? Welcome back!!!
Even if you dont think its decent enought to post it....POST IT! ;)
We'll work on it :D

Thanks everyone. Hey Frank, are you still headed to Benning this year?

Unfortunately, in the never ending rush to have one's knives identified with the Seals, Special Forces etc., the "regular" infantryman, grunt, or whatever is often forgotten.
People don't seem to realize that spec ops people usually have access to anything they need in the way of personal weapons. It's not often so for the regular GI.:(

Mike,
Honestly, that's my feeling as well. Since most special operators haven't paid much in taxes since 9/11, they have the money if they need a custom knife. I also agree with your comment about associating ones knives with spec ops forces. I guess I could advertise that my knives are used by Army Rangers in combat (me). That doesn't tell you a thing about the quality of the knife. I see those kind of statements in the knife publications and I just have to laugh. No one likes a good knife any better than I do, but on this last rotation, I finally stopped wearing one on missions, it was just getting in the way! Don't get me wrong, those who genuinely want to contribute to the cause, and show some appreciationfor highly trained, and unsung warriors, I can assure you it is much appreciated!

Welcome back Whit and thanks for your service.

Now get out there and make some knives! "Leave" my foot; just being in a decent climate should be enough to get you motivated into the shop, right? :D Just kidding, you earned a long break.

Thanks again Whit, take it easy and we'll be looking forward to your posts.

Well I doubt I will get beck to the Regt, but got a good shot of getting to Benning. Looking like maybe July/ Aug timeframe now if it happens. I am looking forward to it, but it will be hard leaving this very easy job. Frank

There are easy jobs here too, just got one myself! I'll be headed to Bldg 4 this summer. Much more knifemaking for me in the next couple of years.
