Recently I had a chance to handle the micarta inlay we bought for a passaround and I loved it.

I was sitting here tonight, pondering about selling an uglyish LE wood inlay. Maple burl scales, very muddy in color, not my favorite at all.

Then in hit me, Maybe I can find a maker/mechanic who can replace the maple burl with some canvas micarta! Yeehaw, I like the idea.

I'm going to contact STR and Chiro75 to see if they are intrested, if anyone else has a knifemaker/customizer they reccommend, let me know.

Below is the one I'm thinking of replacing the inlay on:

Dave,

Interesting idea! I like it! I personally, would love to see a regular sebbie with micarta inlays! When its finished, post pics!

wow - that's indeed an uglyish piece of inlay :D

But, I don't think the micarta will look good on an LE model.
To me, the rough micarta doesn't combine with the polished scales (and non-polished) lock-bar and the gold thumb-stud on the LE models.
And, I like the 'two-strip' setup on the classic because it matches somewhat with the other side and the lockbar.
Then again, I never really liked the wood or leather inlay because of the partly polished scales and colored thumbstud. The micarta inlaid as it is now is just right! ... for me that is of course...YMMV ;)

You're right, if I have this done I'd have the scales reblasted and left un polishes..

I'd think you might have a hard time finding one (knife maker) that would do this mod for you. Here's a good idea. Send your LE back to CRK to have the wood refinished to make it look nicer and buy a Micarta inlay. No offense but I'm not sure why you feel a LE Micarta would be superior to the Classic Micarta inlay.

I was thinking the larger slab of micarta would give even better grip.

You have a point i'm 0 for 3 so far in finding someone. Maybe I'll just try and trade it for a Micarta inlay.

My quess is that the two small slabs give even better grip then one large grip because of the space between them.

I was thinking that without the CNC info, it would be SO time consuming that it probably wouldn't even be worth it. IF you do this, however, I think that a bicolor micarta would look pretty cool.
