Okay, I love my Sebenza. But I haven't sharpened it yet. I guess what's mostly holding me back is once I sharpen it, there's no turning back it'll be my knife. A part of me still thinks it's crazy to have a $300 pocket knife.

I've never really 'sharpened' mine either. Just touch ups on the 204.

I'm not a particularly hard user though. Nothing really heavy duty to cut in my daily life.

Guys come on and use them, chris would want you to. Your not going to live forever, and you cant take them with you; so might as well use them like they were ment to be used. Ok ..Ok ill come clean :( i dont use mine that much either, maybe an envelope once in a while or maybe a candy bar wrapper... but thats hard core use, isnt it? ...see told ya i used mine.

Okay I finally sharpened it today. Ahhhhh what a relief. I use mine all the time. So I knew I wasn't going to be able to hold out on sharpening for much longer.

Yes, I too will soon be facing that first sharpening! Popping the Cherry, so to speak! I look forward to that day, knowing that I have comitted to being a Sebenzanista FOR LIFE!!

Use it, sharpen it. You can do it. No problem You are a total Sebenzanista por vida when you actually take it apart and put it back togther sucessfully. THEN, your are the Man....

Funny thing is that I sharpened mine before using it...

When I first got it, it wasn't dull, but it certainly wasn't Spyderco sharp either. A few strokes on the flat white stones of my Sharpmaker fixed that though

Absolutely understandable. Knife Knuts eventually grow the amounts they spend on knives, like when they start to notice the differences in the quality ones, save up (or use credit) and then go for it. If you go out on a limb in spending, as compared to what you're used to, it can feel weird. Especially in a product that, as you use it, has a limited lifespan, as compared to something like a fine watch. And in the process of sharpening, many beginners have witnessed themselves creating butter knives with formerly sharp knives. So, the spectre of a plus-300 dollar folding butter knife is daunting. But fear not! With CRK, you have a knife that can be reconditioned to it's like-new condition in very short order. As to sharpening, practice on your dull POS knives, or get the Sharpmaker and enjoy it's ease of use in quickly bringing back an edge that's losing it's edge. Relax and enjoy this great knife.

I was removing some masking tape from a light fixture last week, and I had a spot where the masking tape had ripped and left a thin little strip. So I stuck my Mayo'd small sebenza blade in there and pried a bit, thinking I'd just pry an edge of the tape loose.

TINK!

The wife says "That doesn't sound good!", I snapped 1mm - 2 mm of the point off. There a lip of metal around the outside of the fixture I didn't know was there and I was prying against that.

I didn't get mad, my fault. Oh well, as they say, it's mine now. I haven't tried to fix it yet.

bah... i sharpen mine once a week and it gets used everyday at work....has some character and it is mine :D

if you dont want to use it and just look at it....buy 2 :D :D

I think it is good to use Sebenza for work, since that is what the name means! :) I just bought a used small Seb off eBay so I would not have to worry about the "Break In" period! Sebenzas rule!

The Sebenza is just too nice not to use hard. I pretty much beat the crap out of mine, though I haven't broken the tip off one yet. The Sebenza is tough, but it's not the best tool for prying, so I try not to get too carried away doing that. I have on different occasions used a large model to split kindling, though. I use a chunk of wood to baton down on the blade, to force it through the piece I'm splitting. That will cause serious blade play/lock up problems with most knives, but not with the Sebbie.
