I'm looking around and knowing the crew at the Ranch is super busy. I figured I'd show my XM-18 (who desperately wants a big brother) and some other info.

My XM-18 (has been sharpened since this pic once):

It's a CTS-XHP version (D2 on steroids!!). We debated the rustproofness of this steel. I put a light coat of oil on the blade and wiped it off. Then, I sprinkled tap water on it and left it sit for 24 hours!

At the end of the 24 hour period, here it is with evaporation marks BUT no rust:  ;)

Now here's the blade a couple of minutes after the previous shot - after wiping the blade off again. Evaporation spots gone and back to Hinderer goodness again!

XM-18 and XM-24, the best folders that money can buy. I can't afford custom grinds and all of that, but who needs them with this quality! Thanks Rick....superb generation 3 folders! :D

I read somewhere about a procedure that involves carefully warming up the blade some with a hair dryer; then appying militech to the blade. Supposedly it bonds with the metal on a molecular level. I don't know how true that is.

I'm not a scientist or a metallurgist but I did it to mine and it sheds water like a duck. I've had zero rust issues and I've carried my 3.5 non-flipper, rain or shine, every single day since I got it.

I didn't want to get all technical or push a product (spells war around here!) but that's what I did before I did this. 3 days & 3 coats of Militec 1 in the pivot & one the blade. I do it with all my good knives. I apply & work it in, then keep re-heating and wiping down the pivot and blade every 4 hours or so until they're bone dry.

The next day and 3rd day I repeat the process. Each heating will liquify some of it until it's dry and fully bonded.

I called Militec and they said you really only need one coat on a folder but 3 is great if you want to go through the hassle.

It's a lubricant and has anti-corrosive properties. They made it for guns - to be applied to semi-autos and fired while hot. Thus the heating with the blow dryer which takes the pplace of dripping it on and firing bullets through a folding knife. :D

Great info and great pics, thanks!
I used to oil my XM18 weekly, living in HI I feared rust would be a factor. But I haven't put anything on my XM18 user for months and still no rust issues. I use the $&@! Out of it and it keeps on trucking.
These things live up to the hype and then some!
Thanks Rick, Rob, and the rest of the Hinderer Ohana for putting out such a stellar product

Ive dove with mine in my tac vest. Never had any rust just took care of it after with the rest of my gear. Only concern is if sand will abrade the teflon washers as it washes in swimming up to the beach. Not to sure on how resistant they are to that. But my knife definately goes the distance and then some.
