Today I opened the wrappings of the first custom knife I've ever owned. Wow, it took my breath away! David Dempsey made this special knife using a combination of attributes from two different knives on his website www.dempseyknives.com under the category of Field/Utility. The knife is an APU (All Purpose Utility) with the high polish and green stabilized burl wood handle slabs of his EDC.

Uggh... I've taken a couple of digital photos of the knife however they aren't hosted so I can't post them here. Bummer, well if anyone would like me to email the photos to them just ask.

Here are the two knives that my knife's style was derived from:

Send the pics to me and I'll get them up for ya.
If hotmail won't take them let me know and I'll send you my home account addy.

Excellent choice for your first. I'll bet it's a great-looking knife. Is it going to be a user?

Thanks Burchtree! It will be a limited user. David had a very nice tooled leather, left-handed sheath made for this knife and I will carry it. However I'll be cutting open boxes and such with one of my other EDC knives.

alphamaniv you are fast! Thanks a bunch for posting the pics! My words would certainly fall short of describing this knife.

Congrats shortcut, nice blade. I have looked at Dempsey's work and considered ordering one, looks like should not have waited so long.

Nice blade, is ti a user?

:)

I appreciate your kind remarks, .45acp. All I did was have the good sense to buy it. David is truly an artist. The finish of the blade and handle slabs is stunning. The way that the handles and bolster are fitted shows the precision of a master.

I'll use it for skinning and I'll carry it in the attractive, hand-tooled sheath that came with it but I'll use my pocket knife for cutting open boxes and such. Typically I carry three knives and none are as pretty as this new knife so I'll use it with that in mind. :)

He is Awesome, we should have our first shipment of his beauties in another two weeks, we will have them on BF first, HE IS THE MAN! Paul

Blush!

Thank you Mike for the opportunity to put the piece together for you. I'm glad she arrived safe and meets your expectations. I hope she provides with many years of good service.

Also a big "Thank You" to all for the kind words about Mike's knife. Much appreciated on this end:D

Hey Paul, your knives are just a few days out. I'll give you a shout shortly.

All the best to each

Breathless is ,too, the only word I can seem to think of to describe it. I don't want to say much else: somehow words seem to spoil it a little for me....I just want to keep looking at it...."she" holds my mind with "her" simple elegence!
Imagine being able to make something like that...to do what you like to do best and to craft a knife as beautifal as that....breathless!

Cool I'm glad David got to see the pictures and to hear again just how pleased I am by his craftsmanship.

gramps thank you very much for commenting so favorably. I think that anybody that appreciates knives would cherish one of David's creations. This was a treat to myself that I'll enjoy for a lifetime.
