I'm choosing between the Patriot and Super Commander

I'm leaning towards the Super commander as I currently have the mini commander and love the recurve blade. I can't tell from pictures if the Super Commander has a solid back-spacer or stand-offs. Can anyone tell me?

I see that that Patriot has the stand-offs.

Any other personal experiences with either knife are welcome.

I would EDC whichever one I purchase. I wear a suit and tie to work but that's never dictated what knife I have on me. I do have to remove the pocket clip on some of the newer Emersons to smooth out the G10 under the clip. Otherwise it tears my wool-blend pants to shit inside my right pocket.

I really, really wanted to like the Patriot, and did in fact LOVE the blade - alas, the grip didn't like my hand so it was sold after 2 days. I have had a few Super Commanders and have one in my pocket right now. I have never, ever felt a more perfect grip shape for my hands. Mine is the older backspacer construction (my preference) but new are standoff.

Ah ha, the new ones come with stand-offs - well then I have my answer. Super Commander. Thanks for the input on the patriot handle OM - the awesome handle on my mini commander is one of the reasons I like it so much.

I'm running into a similar issue with the grips on my new Scalawag. All of my previous Emersons had been older, well loved blades from my father, and I'm finding that the new G10 is roughing up my jeans. Can't imagine what it would do to dress pants

Should smooth out over time.

My Super CQC-8 shredded pockets at first, but after a couple of years is just about right. :)

tough one. about equals in my mind. pick the one you like the best looks wise. both are very functional in their designs. i prefer the commander handle shape more though myself, but that may not apply to you. id go super commander, but i wouldn't be upset if i went patriot either.

the new emersons, meaning undated ones as new...... have a fierce harsh texture. the older ones were strong in texture but wore down after awhile of using and carrying etc. the new texture isnt wearing down as fast....ill dare say at all so far for me. make me keep grabbing for my older ones over the new ones.

Hand size can make a big difference. I wear size XL gloves and the Sup Com is a great fit.

Hope this helps

John

Well I recently looked very closely at the CQC-7 and I wish I hadn't, lol. It appears to have a tremendous following and when it comes to the flipper model, forget about it - users drone on and on and on... how great it is. Ha Ha. So I may now be deciding between the Super Commander and the CQC-7.

I absolutely LOVE my SuperCom, one of my favorite production models for sure.

I have both and both are very usable and ergonomic, at least for me. The Super Commander is by far my favorite though. Like JohnPB, above, I have large hands and the SC fits so naturally in every grip it is simply amazing. Pick the one that fits you best and you will be happy, but if you have to choose blind and you have large hands...Super Commander. Easy.
