I'm considering a knife as a gift, suggestions?

One of my friends was recently commissioned as an officer in the Navy, and I think a blade would be a nice gift for him. He isn't too knowledgeable about knives, but he is slightly interested. Suggestions? $150 tops, I'm really looking for something in the sub $100 range.

If he is going to be out at sea a lot, I would say something in the Spyderco Salt line of knives.

And dont forget to buy a spyderco sharpmaker so he can keep the blade sharp. Spyderco makes good fixed knives for that price range. If you go a little higher Bark River is also good.

The salts are good! Other options are h20 Griptillians, made in their alternative to H1, or maybe a Buck Vantage Pro, S30V at an amazing price, light and simple. Easy to clean! Tell us what you decide! Thanks! Hope this helps!

If he's an officer, he wouldn't be carrying fixed blades most of the time. Salt line is good. Pacific Salt in yellow?

one more vote for a pacific salt! and the sharpmaker idea was a good one, i love mine!

As a Naval officer myself, I'm rather partial to my Benchmade Warn. An assisted opener can be quite handy when you're working on a ship.

A Spyderco Pacific Salt or one of the ZT folders and just keep it clean. Good Luck. Kevin

I have been looking to get a C120 Mariner for almost a year now. I think that it qualifies as something just a bit special and I would certainly be proud to receive one as a gift. Some room to engrave too.
