I love them. I love to play with them. I love the feel. But I don't think I'll ever trust one again. First my Microtech socom elite spring broke. No biggie, things happen from time to time. While I was waited for MT to fix it I bought a BM5000. LOVE this knife. I've only had it a few months now and the return spring on one side of the axis dealy broke. (maybe that's just axis and not an auto problem?) I was really bummed too, I had just finished sharpening it. First time I've ever gotten one hair POPPING sharp. I was very happy. Then a jam.

One question, should I try to take it back to the dealer I bought it or send back to BM?

Unless you are a LEO or military, I would just live with it. BM might be forced in this litigous day and age to not send it back to you if you are John Q Citizen.

Take it to the dealer and see what they can do, if they are no help, maybe you could order the part from BM through them.

See if the dealer will send it back to BM. You'll have no problems going thru a dealer to have service done on your BM auto. Don't give up on autos. Just stay away from Microtech.;)

Microtech didn't have a problem sending it back to me. I'm fire/rescue. Not exactly legal either but I sure made them believe it was. lol.

And I would NEVER in a million years live with it. Ever. lol 200ish dollar knife, I'm not living with anything being wrong with it. I could fix it myself, I just didn't want to void the warrenty.

lol I had sworn of MT when I sent my socom back. But at my request for a blem halo, I got not only my socom back but also a halo with a slight blem. Free.

I talked to BM. they have no problem sending it back to me. the only reason I asked that question is because it would be quicker to just get it replaced from a dealer.

I should of edited my post, I didn't mean live with it the way it was, I meant live with it and fix it yourself. BM has taken care of me in the past, but that was with AO's and Axis locks.

Since it's going to have to get fixed at the BM factory anyway, I don't see there being any shipping speed difference between sending it yourself and sending through the dealer. Though I suppose there's a remote chance that it might work its way through the system at Benchmade faster if it's sent through a dealer. Or maybe vice versa. Alas, I'm thinking out loud...

Personally, if I didn't have to worry about legality of shipping, I'd just send it myself. Less hassle to send and pick up at the end. From what I've heard, BM turnaround time for things mailed to them is about 4-5 weeks. And for what it's worth, I hear that broken Axis springs is one of the less common warranty issues for BM, so I guess you got one of the few unlucky ones. Myself, I've never had one break on me.

If it were not an auto, sending it in yourself would be the way to go. I am pretty sure that BM as a company policy though will not service an auto for and individual unless you are LE or military. Or so I have heard at least. Personally I would'nt chance it.

they have no problem with Fire/rescue. I didn't think they would, microtech didn't and they're a pain.

If I get half the service from BM that I got from MT I'll be happy. That's not sarcasm either. MT got my knife back inside of 5 weeks. Plus the free halo. lol.

yeah... that's my luck. I can break anything. It's kinda rediculous. One of my friends reminds me everytime I buy something to make sure it has a good warranty.
