I bought a Kershaw blur about a month ago for carrying it as a beater, It was okay quality not considering there was blade rub and the tip bent after i stuck it into a wooden board, not to mention i had to sharpen it every second day. The only reason i carried it was because the AO was fun to play with, today i picked it up and opened it and close it a couple times but when i folded the blade again i heard a click. When i opened it again to see what the noise was about well, it's not an assisted opening knfe anymore. It seems the AO gave out on me, i don't really care too much because i can still use it as a manual plus it comes out of the detent much easier and smoother now. Anybody's speed safe ever stop working or is it cause i got a bad model ? Now i have and excuse to buy myself a BM 550GY-600 :)

Knucks

Well, it sounds like you need to send that in to kershaw with thier amazing warrenty you will be golden. This obviously isn't ment to happen. Both of my speed-safes (leek and chive) work great!

Get rid of that Kershaw, and get yourself a Benchmade!.:).

If you abuse a knife don't complain. In regards to the AO, there has been reports of the torsion bar giving up after extended use but easily serviced by Kershaw under warranty.

call kershaw, they'll send you a new torsion spring.

You can email them too. I did that once, because I wanted a spare, just in case. A week or so later they sent me a package that had 5 of them! They are real easy to swap out as long as you got the right size torx bits.

 That's abuse? Steel shouldn't bend in wood. If that's abuse, then I abuse most of the knives I own, and have never had one bend like that.

tip should not bend if you stick it into a board.
I can stick any knife I own into a board with no damage.
It is not abuse.

knucks, sorry to hear about your experience, why don't you send me your Blur back, I'd like to examine the knife in question personally. Certainly I'll send you another, better yet, I'll replace it with another knife should that be of interest.
We have less than 1% of our AO's actually come back for a defective torsion bar, again sorry. Hopefully you won't judge us as a company based on this one experience, certaily not the norm.

glockman99, have you had an issue as well?

I assume you have the 440A version, since it's a "beater". 440A is a great "working" steel and yes, it can bend. It is softer than the better steels and is also why you say you need to sharpen it often.

I have a few Kershaws and have never had a problem with their assisted open. I'm mostly a Benchmade and Spyderco man. However, I have always thought the Blur was a great design and deserved better steel. When they came out with one in S30V and grey handle accents, I picked one up immediatly. I could only get a combo blade and prefer plain but, oh well. The knife has worked flawlessly and the S30V blade is great. To me, with the grey handle, it's a very attractive knife and the S30V sealed the deal.

Sorry to hear about you problems but to me, the NEW Blur is one fine knife.

As others have already said, send it back. I have had to send 3 Benchmades and 1 Spyderco back over the years. Does that mean I'll never buy another one of them? Heck no. I just bought a BM 5000 yesterday.

What he said.

My mini mojo's AO broke after about a month, but still works fine as a manual. I'm still debating on replacing the spring or leaving it as is.

My only other AO, the Blue Bump, has stayed strong for maybe eight months now.

Ultimately, I'm a manual guy. I can't wait to try a quasi AO like the ET though.

Do you listen to Strapping Young Lad, or do you just like the artwork J85909266?

I put a lot of miles on my Leeks, with no failures! Let them fix it, as it's likely a rare failure. Kershaw is a stellar company to deal with.
BTW stabbing a knife forcefully into wood can be abuse, depending on the blade! The leek is such a sweet cutting machine, I wouldn't dream of stabbing into wood. My old Marine Ka-bar, no problem!!

Hey there, I was given a whirlwind with a broken torsion bar and also to my fotune a chive with a worn torsion bar. Called the company, gave them the model numbers and my adress and recieved 2 new torsion bars for each knife at no cost to me even with them being shipped to Canada and me not being the original owner. Basically what I'm getting at is with the cost of the knives and great customer service I certainly wouldn't give up on them on the count of a broken torsion bar. Goodluck to you.

AM, our new Cyclone's have the ability, with a flip of a switch, to turn SpeedSafe on/off. You want manual, np, you want an AO, just turn it on. Couple of sizes, USA made, 13C26, street values in the $50-$60 range.

Have had 3 different leeks, one whirlwind, bump and offset . . . oh and a centofante kershaw . .all AO's . .never a problem . .esp. the leeks . .my two steels have many miles as well as the whirlwind . . I flick the hell out of my trusty EDC leek and it never fails . .so it is not in my exp. that the AO ( at least with Kershaw) is problematic . . .plus if there ever would be a problem . . I know they will take care of it.

Many companies have issues with their knives and there will always be one rotten apple that slips through the cracks. Its the intergrety, customer communication and resolve that is important . .and this is where Kershaw excels . . .give it another go . . is you loved flippin it out and AO your knife (as do I every day) then they'll fix it, perhaps even send you a brand new knife to make you happy (as you said Thomas) and you'll be happy.

Now whats wrong with Kershaw . . .nothing if you ask me!:D
