this is my favorite forum, so I just wanted to share.

I'm finally sending something out for heat treating!

Excellent!

I've started working on a rail spike knife, I hope to treat my own!

Congrats bro! You do plan on posting pics when you're all done don't ya...

:)

Sorry, all I have is 1 crappy cell pic. It was packed up and shipped this morning.

I'm excited. I've worked on several knife attempts previously, but there was something wrong with each of them design-wise or I barely mangled a plunge cut or something similar.

I think I'm OCD about creating things; if it's not perfect, and I cannot fix it, then I trash it and start over.

This knife isn't perfect, but it will make a good user, and I made it for me to use out in the woods, and beat on.

It's 1095, 1/8" thick, 9" OAL, spear point, thumb jimping/file work; taper-grind/convex edge grind. The scales, which I might redo, are red oak and wenge, with red spacers and copper pins.

Looks great, I prefer more tip in a camp knife, but other than that piece of personal criticism I think you made a great knife

Thanks for the comments. I agree about the tip, looking at the picture. In person, the knife is a bit more pointed, not much, but more Kephartesque. The handle feels good in my wood mock-up.

I've also ordered a few ferro rod blanks form firesteel.com to make a matching fire steel.

What he said. I really like the handle contours on that one.

More exiting news...

According to USPS tracking, my knife was delivered to Pete's Heat Treat on Nov 30th.

And today...ferro rods arrived from FireSteel.com, along with marine grade shock cord.
