I'm getting a Hi-Power!

I'm a 1911 guy through and through. But a couple of months ago I fired a Hi-Power at the range. Big mistake. That gun was a pretty nice shooter, although the trigger was nothing special. It pointed as well as a 1911, and with the blued finish it is almost as gorgeous. So I put it on my "wish list" and have kept my eye out for one ever since. The problem is that this gun is pretty much nonexistent. I haven't found any in the local gun stores except for a couple of beaters. And this being CA, even those guns were wildly overpriced. Since they say patience is a virtue I decided to wait a little longer.

This past Saturday I was helping my friend buy his first gun (I was the one who introduced him to guns). Under the glass was a blued .40 BHP in 99% condition for $650. I want a 9mm, but I know a good deal when I see one and if there is a gun that can get me to try the .40, this gun is it. Unfortunately I didn't have any money at the time, but I've been a good customer as well as directed word-of-mouth business to him, so the gunshop owner offered to set it aside for me and I'll be buying it on Saturday.

I'm incredibly excited. I have a thing for blued steel guns, and this BHP is an unexpected pleasure. The only problem is that I won't be able to pick it up until the 27th due to my schedule. :grumpy:

I too have a thing for Hi-Powers. My Dad captured one in North Africa duriing WWII & it was his constant companion until he was wounded near Lyons France. I use mine a good bit in IDPA. One of the all time great pistols.

Congratulations! Here's the one that's on my hip as I'm typing this... just to whet your appetite. You might also consider an Argentine FM, not as sexy but a great value at under $400.

You're on a slippery slope.

Great choice! The HP has been a favorite of mine for a long time also.
Have you handled a CZ 75B? Basically it is a double/single action HP.
CZ prices have risen a little in the last few years, but are still had for $400 or less
used in excellent condition.

Funny you asked about the CZ-75B. That's the exact same pistol that my friend bought on Saturday, based on my recommendation. It's a great gun, and I had thought about it, but I like the way the Hi-Power handles and looks just a little bit more. Plus, I can shoot his 75B whenever I feel like it.

Funny you asked about the CZ-75B.

Since I don't have a pic of my HP's (9mm and .40), I'll post a pic of this 75B.

Consider purchasing The Shooter's Guide to the Browning Hi Power. Its not spendy, and a good one.

I gots one of thems. The trigger is much better with the magazine disconnect thing removed. I've heard that the .40 balances differently than the 9 though.

A fine pistola for those with small hands.

My hands are a bit small for glooks. :)

HiPowers are beautiful guns, classic. I don't care for their ergos, though. The CZ has better ergos, IMO, and if you like the SA trigger, get a CZ75SA.

On the HiPower, though; definitely get rid of the mag disconnect.

I consider the CZ75B an evolved Hi-Power. I was a zealous fanatical devotee to 1911's and HP's but the CZ75B tested my faith and converted me over to the Czech Side.

Don't worry about a trigger job until after you get the mag disconnect removed. Most likely your problem will be solved. ;)

My cousin brought one around a few years back. A ran the first mag through to get a feel for her and then loaded the second one and actually put a smiley face on a standard sil. at about 15 yards! I told him to let me know if he ever wanted to sell it. A few months later asked him about it...he traded it for $250 to get another pistol. I think I'm gonna' go cry now...

Good choice. The Browning Hi Power is my favorite pistol of all time....I own several. :D
They are typically not perfect for every user out of the box, but they require so little and it is easily done. Drop the mag disconnect, and bob the hammer if required. I personally like to have night sights, and swap out the grips. There!!! Perfect pistol for me.

My CZ75B would be a close second choice....the BHP feels/points just a tad better for me.

I can't remember who said this, or I would give them credit:

A Glock is a simple tool.
A Hi-Power is a sensual work of functioning art.
A 1911 is a dedicated religion.

I'm a little surprised so many like the Hi Power, not that it's not likable; I just thought people had moved on and forgotten about it. And I never would have thought Bruise would own one.

munk.

A Glock High-Power?? I did not know they made one! JK.
You'll love that Pistol! ;)

I'm picking it up this Thursday. I normally pick it up on the weekends, but the fiancee and I are going out of town for a trip and I don't want to wait another week.

Now I just have to place an order for some fixed sights. This pistol comes with the adjustables, and I don't like them on my guns. After changing out the sights and removing the mag disconnect it should be good to go.
