Looked at my finances the other day, and I was shocked to find out that I've been spending around $450 a month on chewing tobacco:eek: Do you realize who meany knives I could buy with that! I've been smoking/chewing for more than 25 years. I've managed to quit here and there for a month or two, but always relapse. I've got to quit for good this time. Massachusetts is taxing the hell out of the products, so I really should thank them. I'm quitting for financial reasons lol. Wish me luck

Good for you. I quit for financial reasons too, about 20 years ago. My life insurance was more than my bosses' at the time, because I was a tobacco user. He was 20 years older than me and ACTUALLY HAD CANCER at the time but since I was a tobacco user mine was more expensive.

Good luck! I quit smoking cold turkey on Feb 22, 1996. Never had another puff.

Realize that you are stronger than the addiction. It will get better!!!!

I gave up tobacco in 1985. Best decision I ever made. I also quit cold turkey with no help from the patch or a pill or anything else.

Quitting is a decision.

It's only been a little over 24 hours since my last chew. I'm fairly uncomfortable right now.

good luck sir, really hope that I can do that here too, bcuz the tax where I live is next to nothing actually, you can walk around and spend $1 for a decent pack of ciggarett. And I'm actually smoking 1 pack per day now... I know, it's not that much, but who knows how much I'll spend on something like that one day right? better spend it on knives tho. Well, I'll give up when I feel like I'm ready :)

I stopped using Skoal when I was on vacation. It is $25 a can up here. So far I have been nicotine free for 132 days now. Unfortunately I still have cravings but when I think that I have saved more than the price of a new Sebenza I keep going. I hope to buy myself something really nice for Christmas.

I found that I had to give up "trigger activities" when I quit smoking. I was in the navy at the time on shift work. (12 hour shifts from 6 to 6 w/a few days off between the nights and the days). Before my first night shift, I'd stay up as long as I could reading and smoking. after I quit, I couldn't open a book w/out wanting to smoke. I went from reading 3 books a week to not having read 2 books since 1996.

I too quit smoking 6 weeks ago, without outside aid. The secret is commitment. I never say...I'm trying to quit smoking....I say....I don't smoke....and believe it. Hang in there guys, as Red Green would say....we're all in this together. <g>

Congrats folks, that is a hard thing to stop once you've started and if you manage to stop you should be given recognition.

The first three weeks were the hardest for me. But when you're resolved to win, then you don't give in to it, even though you might feel like you're going to split in half and come right out of your skin.

When I was in jail, we were able to guess the brand of cigarette the guard was smoking while out in the yard.

but yeah cigarettes are disgusting once you quit, youll wonder why you did it for so long.

That's $5400 per year! A knife? You could take a very nice vacation for that.

Invest it conservatively and, in less than 15 years, you will have an eight-of-a-million dollars!

I gave up cigarettes in 1968. Top brand pack of cigarettes was 32 cents a pack at the time.
Have never picked up another cigarette since then. grubs

$450 is a lot to spend on a slow painful death, but if it's just a monetary issue you could switch to them big cans-o-chew like my buddy Tom. I believe it's the equivalent of 12 cans, and I believe he's paying $30 for 2 cans. That's $1.25 a can.

Or you could be a man and give it up? BTW I've been a smoker since I was 15 :D Good Luck.

Ok, I have a little over 48 hours behind me now. Doing ok. I'm making sure to get in a good work out daily. Seems to help. Appetite has skyrocketed tho. Think I need a big bag of sunflower seeds to keep my mouth busy. Thanks for the support everyone.

Chewing gum, Dum Dum lollipops, and Nicorette lozenges may be helpful too. I'm going to be picking up an ecig kit pretty soon (this Friday) I hope and will be quitting too. I tried the Cold Turkey route, lasted 2 days and wanted to break everything in my wake.
